Odd Dome/Map Light Question...

Hey all,
My son picked up a '20 JLUR a few weeks ago. First thing I noticed since it was night time was how much brighter it was inside than our '18s. I look up, and saw that not only was the main dome light on, but all 4 map lights as well when the doors were opened.

On our '18s, only the main dome light is on when the doors are open. My wife's has the 7" radio, so I searched through the different settings but didn't find a way to turn the map lights on with doors open. I didn't even check on my 5" radio but I doubt there's anything in the settings to enable them.

Anyone have a clue how to get them all on?

There is no setting for this in regard to that on a JL.

On your 2018, you can change out/replace it's dome light with the newer style dome (became avail/used in 2019) type like your Son's 2020 JL has.

Not a hard changeover to do though... for info how...

About the new dome you need to buy:

The 2019 version of the dome light has it where all 5 lights (main light and the 4 map lights) illuminate automatically when you open the door, is part number is 6CD43TX7AG or the newer part #6CD43TX7AH . ($90+-)

Thanks @Rhinebeck01 for the link! It sucks the cost went up $30 in 4 years, but that's pandemic/strike/whatever they wanna blame it on today (corporate greed really!).

Is this not related to the toggle slider to the left of the steering wheel? Maybe it’s slid all the way down?

OP, has a 2018 JL with the old style dome light.. 2019 and newer have new style dome light that has it where all 5 lights (main light and the 4 map lights)all illuminate automatically.

Semi related ... I noticed for the first time last night that there's persistent under dash light in the foot wells for the front passengers. (I guess I haven't driven it at night much!)

I this new? or is are these "courtesy" lights not shutting off after a few seconds like they should be?

It depends on the year and trim. There's courtesy lights that comes on with the dome light, and ambient lights that dims along with the other lights controlled by the dial by the light controls.

Thanks again @Rhinebeck01 for the part number! I checked with a local salvage yard this morning that does a lot of JLs and picked up a dome light today along with a hitch for my son’s JLUR.

Good to hear! I know a local guy that has a salvage yard and he is pulling a replacement dome off of a wrecked 2023 and I will acquire it for my 2018. For the $30 bucks it is worth it. I do a lot of night time traveling and I have been meaning to put the newer dome in my JL. Your post motivated me to finally do so...

For those with a 2018 that want to move to a newer dome light, do know that there iss now a newer part# for the dome which I just became aware of.

So, 2018 JL owner, you would want a replacement dome light with part # 6CD43TX7AG or 6CD43TX7AH.
