I had to get a new battery in February of this year and of course everything had to reset. I went to go get a smog test and the O2 sensor has not reset and won’t pass smog. I have driven it over 1000 miles doing every cycle, I can find on forms in the Internet. I drove 90 minutes last night with another cycle that it still won’t reset. I’ve talked to Jeep mechanics and they just keep telling me to keep driving it, but my registration is coming due. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. I have got to get this thing to reset.

Driving it is all you can do, but regular O2 readiness is usually one of the first readiness monitors to clear up outside of catalyst and misfire. I would suggest clearing DTCs and then resetting engine adaptive if you have a JScan or similar device and driving some more.

Are they possibly misreading the heated o2 sensor readiness? Because I believe these don’t even use that one and that line should say “not equipped” or something along those lines.

Had a similar issue where it would not clear codes for inspection after a battery went dead. This worked.

I do have a code reader and I reset the codes twice. It was at my mechanics for two weeks and even a cheap train mechanic and we cannot get the sensors to reset.

I will try the suggested drive pattern above. I drove for 90 minutes last night on another cycle pattern did not practice. Thank you for all input

Same thing happened with my '21 JLR (manual) last fall. Had auxiliary battery replaced over the summer and failed emissions test in October after driving for over 1000 miles.

This is what I did to clear it after my Jeep Dealership essentially told me the same thing as you've posted...to just keep driving.

I performed this Drive Cycle to clear the O2 monitor:
1. Cold Start
2. Idle (parked) for 5 minutes.
3. Drive to 35 mph and come to a complete stop.
4. Get on a highway and drive at 55 mph for 3 minutes shifting into 6th gear (manual)
5. Decelerate to 20 mph (no braking, no downshifting)
6. Accelerate to 55 mph for 5 minutes. (I did shift into 3rd gear and back up to 6th for this step)
7. Decelerate down to 20 mph (no braking, no downshifting)
8. Park & Idle for 3 minutes.
9. Turn off engine for 3 minutes.

This worked for me on my 1st try.

Good luck!!
Let us know if this works for you.

Are any of the codes you're clearing P1128? If so, that confirms that an O2 sensor requires replacement, full stop.

Replacing one of the upstream O2 sensors on the 2.0T in my JLU served to instantly extinguish that particular code for good.
