You have summed up my feelings exactly. I really miss the feel of my TJ.
Did either of you test drive before you purchased ?

Your complaints would have kept you from buying one after a drive around the block

I would like to say that I enjoyed this self-indulgent “back in the day” garbage, but like most, I didn’t. This is the JL Jeep forum.. Y’all go get together somewhere and tell each other that you are the real Jeepers, deep into the night. And don’t post here.
I think there are forums that specialize in what y’all have to say.
This ain’t it.

Eh, I had a YJ and TJ for a total of 10 years and my JLR feels enough like a Jeep.

I don’t miss the leaky roof or the soft top flapping in the breeze at 50mph at about 115 db. I appreciate the fact that it has airbags, cruise control and more than two working speakers. I’m grateful not to have to deal with this under the dash:

I don’t miss the leaking rear driveshaft transfer case seal. Definitely don’t miss the Jeep losing power completely on the highway, leaving me without power steering or brakes as my YJ was known to do. Don’t miss the death wobble (fingers crossed).

But it’s still relatively unrefined, still quite rugged, it’s far more capable, still has the turn radius of a golf cart, will still go anywhere, and still can expose me to the elements when the doors and top go away. It’s the best of both worlds.

I briefly had a CJ-5 and a CJ-7, but my '92 YJ was my dear love. In my mind, the TJ is when it lost the nostalgia for me. Gone was the mechanical truckish feel and leaf spring go kart feel of the YJ, replaced with a springy Buick feel of coil springs. I realize this made a better jeep - made for offroad, but it lost the mechanical connection for me.

The JL is the first one to make that loss of mechanical connection worthwhile. It may be on coil springs, but it returns to form quickly and no longer bounces. It may no longer feel mechanical, but at least it now feels premium.

Yeah a CJ will rattle your spine. I guess there's some romance to that. I just don't know WTF it is.

Wow! Didn’t @UKCATS come on this thread in support of OP ?
And now that she’s getting hammered he’s nowhere to be found. Deleted his posts.
Huh. I guess we all know who we can count on in a pinch.

That dash isn't too bad, just needs a couple cable ties. :giggle:

... Why would you want your jeep to run and feel like shit LOL.
Yeah, LOL. Who here misses a float carburetor?? You know, that black smoke and the engine coughing and sputtering when the vehicle angles were too steep or it bounced too hard. Oh yeah. We forget this stuff quickly.

I did, but I am a long time Jeep fan, and a Jeep is required for our adventures. And since iI’ve sold my tow rig and car hauler, a JL is the best option to fulfill my needs. Not saying I don’t like it, just lamenting the fact Wranglers are getting too soft. Like everything else in our society.

Da Fuq? What in the hell are you blathering about? I haven’t gone anywhere, the OP doesn’t need me to defend her, and I haven’t deleted any posts.

Reading your posts leads me to believe that:

A. You have suffered a severe head injury
B. Are a raging alcoholic
C. Are so stupid you can’t tell your ass from a hole in the ground

When you’re done licking the window, please share the correct answer.

I understand and agree in some ways

So why not buy a 2017 JK or earlier ?

I mean this thread kinda bashes what FCA has done to these Rigs after hearing all the JK complaints over the past 12 years

These sorts of threads always make me laugh. I get nostalgia, but what OP is calling for isn’t nostalgia. She wants a vehicle that rides and sounds and runs like old garbage. Old Wranglers are a dime a dozen on the used market. Go buy one if you feel your JL is that bad and save us all from these pointless rants.
