The last of June, I was driving when suddenly there were a ton of error codes and the vehicle wouldn’t move because the ABS, lockers, and sway bars were all engaging and disengaging. I was stuck at an intersection, turned it off and was able to drive it home. We took it to Our dealership and they said the harness behind the glove compartment was dirty and a little out of alignment. It ran well for the next few weeks, we even did a road trip to New Orleans over the 4th of July without any problems. Since then, it’s been constant problems. When the vehicle is interrogated, about 2 pages of error codes print out. Our dealership resets the system. Our dealership first replaced both batteries, but that didn’t fix it. Most recently, they checked all the harnesses and wiring. Hugh wasn’t 2 miles down the highway before the errors started again. Sometimes, we can’t get it out of Park when started and sometimes we lose power steering while driving in addition to other error codes. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I’ve seen the same issue on some forums, but I don’t know if those issues were resolved. Our dealership has been very good about trying to figure this out but our concern is that at some point they will throw up their hands and say, “Sorry, but we’ve done everything we know to do.” What are our options if no one can solve this problem? We love our Jeep, but this isn’t safe to drive. Are we just supposed to sue when one of use gets killed in this vehicle because of the continued malfunction?

This seems to be more common lately. Others have found the green canbus connector behind the glove box or near the back seat is to blame. It's a $15 part that seems to fix it.

Thank you. I'm making notes of all the things to mention to the dealership. You might think their techs would know...

Besides the can bus, check that all fuses are seated properly, ground connectors are tight and wiring harnesses are secure. I haven’t gone through all the technical service bulletins, but Jeep is aware of the issue, although I doubt every mechanic has red them all. I posted a couple of the relative TSBs in another thread. Living in a third world country, California, my problem started when I his a really rough section of road and lost throttle control. The problems got worse after some off-roading. I found a couple can bus connections to be loose and numerous fuses/relays not seated properly.

I’m also highly suspicious of the security gateway module.

I'm having a similar issue, It has been going on for a few months now and it has been into two different dealers a total of four times. Sometimes I hit a bump the dash lights up with every error known to mankind and when I shut it off, it won’t go out of park until I disconnect the batteries, then all is fine for a while. The power steering went out once (that one was fun), speedometer has gone out (both analog and digital), Once it even dropped into 1st gear at a stop light and wouldn’t shift until battery disconnect. Usually though, all or most of the dash warning lights pop on when I hit a bump and when you shut down and restart, they all go away. The first time it happened, I already had an appointment to get my service locker system light looked at, so I just added it to the list. They replaced the locker wiring harness and said they found a few shorts underneath the chassis and fixed them, and it was fixed. The first bump I hit when I went off road made the dashboard light up like a Christmas tree again, but that dealership wanted me to wait three weeks to take it back in, so I went to a different dealership that could get me in sooner. When I took it in there, I forgot to remove my Tazer and they said that was the problem and removed it. They were not able to get the any warnings to pop up when testing, so they assumed that it was fixed. The same thing happened again (with the Tazer and security bypass module removed) the first bump I hit, this time on the freeway and it made the dash light up like a Christmas tree again. I took it back into them last week and just heard back from them this morning they can see that there are a ton of communication errors in the memory but they cannot find the cause so they want me to come pick it up and wait for it to happen again and just hope that it stays in the error state and have it towed to them so they can find the issue. Mine seems to only happen when it’s either hot outside or the motor has been running for a while and it’s fully warmed up. I can only assume that as vehicle gets hotter the wires become more pliable, hit a bump and presto, dashboard Christmas tree.
