After reading so many people say that the hard top was quieter than the soft top, I thought I was crazy after putting my hard top on this fall. I'm having the same issue as you. For reference, I have the premium soft top as part of the dual top package and it's much quieter and does not have the cavitation sounds.

That's very good to know, as we plan on getting soft top for the summer time. When I took the top off, we did not notice it much at all. We could tell it some, but it was not annoying because the top was not there to trap it and exaggerate it.

I agree, I drove a lot of hard tops with different trims and engines before driving a soft top and I found that, aside from a crosswind causing a buffet and minor flap condition from a strong gust, the soft top seemed to be quieter. We ordered the soft top and SO FAR, I've been happy with it.

My logic is the hard top reverberates noise because it is hard, vs the soft top which absorbs more soundwaves. I could be crazy or have dead frequencies in my hearing too.

It indeed makes sense the hardtop would exaggerate the noise.

I dropped the pressure to 30psi last night, and it actually helped slightly, but not as much as I would like. 25psi may be better, but we go from paved to dirt frequently, so we'd about need an on-board air compressor if we were going to deflate/inflate often. Locally it wouldn't be that bad, but for longer trips it would be helpful.

Got new 285/70R17 tires and new wheels installed, along with the Fox shocks. It didn't help with the noise, but I can tell the ride is a bit softer, and the smaller bumps are slightly more subtle. It could be my imagination. I would definitely not say there are any significant changes in the feel of the ride... it is all subtle at best, but the look is much better to me (opinion). It looks more like what I am accustomed to seeing on a Jeep... and I like the wheel style. I'll share pics when I get a chance.

Moving on to other potential treatments as weather and time permit.

I just purchased a Wrangler JL 2-door last week and I'm having the same problem as you.
Did switching to a soft top fix your problem? If not, did you ever find a solution?

Thanks in advance.

We traded it in on a Rubicon with a hardtop and heard the same noise. We traded that one in on one with the auto soft top, and it is better, but there is still a considerable vibration noise coming up thru the rear, just not quite as bad. I think a soft top on the 2-door would work for it, as our 2-door soft top was fine.
