Sorry, newbie to the 2.0. Is it normal for the motor to rev immediately to near 2K RPM when started? It does eventually idle down to around 1K. But I worry above revving that high right away and whether it has sufficient oil.

Thanks.

Not sure on the standard ICE, but my 4xe does it, annoyingly.

my wrangler JL with the 3.6 Pentastar V6 does the same , drops to a thousand after 15-20 seconds , if i drive off before it drops to a thousand rpm i find the engine surges and goes back to 2 thousand rpm when clutch is depressed for a few minutes

I have the 2.0L gas only and immediately at startup it does the same then backs down to about 1500 rpm while warming up. I usually watch the coolant temp and when it gets to around 120 or 130 I'll put it in reverse/drive. By that temp the RPM's have started to get to around the 1000rpm range.

Yes, this is normal. Think of it as your Jeep’s way of stretching before going for a jog. 🏃
stretch a cold muscle is a good way to get a tear. :(

Some manufacturers do silly things to fudge/better their emission numbers--Volkswagen... Some engines have pre-oilers to guaranty the engine has sufficient oil at startup.

Thanks for confirming this seems standard.

I was hoping that maybe this was an adjustable thing with a Tazer or similar device and maybe it's done for emissions.

I'm not sure why they would program the engine to start like this other than some silly emission thing. It just seems like it would lead to premature wear on the top-end and turbo bearings.

The high idle is normal, and it's fine. Oil pressure is basically there as soon as the engine fires.

High idle on start goes back to carbureted vehicles, too...
