I have a 2020 JL sahara u 4 door. We tow it behind the motorhome so it has the red maximus tow hooks and all of the other assorted tow gear on the bumper plastics. It currently has a plastic bumper. All the tow gear added about 25 pounds up front.

I bought a steel rubi bumper kit and Warn 10K synthetic rope winch with maximus 3 winch plate. I figure I'm adding about 140- 160 more pounds to the front. (plastic to steel bumper, winch, winch plate)

I expect sag. My current reading post tow gear, pre steel bumper and winch kit stands at:
DF 36.50"
PF 36.25
DR 37.75
PR 37.50

I do not plan to offroad, winch is for only general emergencies (pulling zero turn out of water when DW mowed too close to pond, etc.....i read all of the "lift" strings and asked my local shops to add spacers in the front. I went to three shops and got four answers:) No plan to ever go bigger on tires, wife likes the factory ride. So I think i need just 1.5" spacers on the front coils, no shock extenders, LCA changes etc. Shoppes want to sell me everything. Sat i must have shock extenders, new bump stock, control arm changes. Can someone please tell me what is real? What do actually need and what is "gee nice to have as long as its all off"? I want to keep current factory ride as close as possible.

seeing that you are doing this to compensate for any sag that might happen with the winch and bumper on, i would suggest just put on the winch and bumper and see if you are happy with it stock

other options you can go with
  • front spacers / leveling kit are good at what you are looking to do bump up the front and are cheap, it will keep your ride the same as what it would be pre lift
  • rubicon 4 door take off springs and shocks, will give you a little bump up due to being stiffer springs and can be found for around $200, will ride a little stiffer but pretty close to stock

at a sub 2" lift you should be fine without getting additional linkages but they can easily be added any time after the springs/spacers are installed.

but i would say throw the winch on first and take it from there, would hate to have you trow money at a problem you dont even know you will have

What size spacers do you recommend if i go the lift path and for clarity if i go sub 2" you say i do not need shock extenders correct? And i do intend to see how it feels first and how much height i actually lose first. sounds like the winch/bumper assembly won't interfere with the lift work regardless. I also have them doing the steering box TSB tomorrow....

Finally, is this "eliminate the rake" really an important issue?

I swapped a Rubicon suspension to my sport, then added 180lbs worth of winch & bumper. I then added a 3/4" Rugged Ridge front spring spacer to get it back to level, worked great. For whatever reason Rugged Ridge says this part # only applies to JK, but they work fine on JLs too! For your situation I think that's all you would need to add, and only costs about $30 :) You just need to remove the rubber prongs on your upper spring isolator pads, and mark the isolator orientation w/ some tape on the isolator & your bump stop to get it back in the same place. The isolator has a tilt to it so getting it back to where it was is best :)

I had a full 1 1/4” rake before my bumper/winch install. I drove it around awhile and now I sit at exactly 2” lower in the front. Rear is about the same. My springs I. Front are 57/58 and 89/90 rear. I want to get most of the front back which was 3/4 “ due to winch work. It would be nice to recover some take as well. So now I’m down to stacking two 3/4” RR spacers in Front or buying one the take off rubi suspensions in the Marketplace with 62/63 fro td and then adding 1/2” spacer. Leaving the back alone. Keeping all original tires etc.... any thought on which? Money is not issue as I just want to do it once......
