I'm quite sure this has been asked before, but perhaps I'm asking the question wrong in the search function. Anyway, are there truly any advantages to changing out just the head unit in a JL with the upgraded Alpine system? Other than the obvious features of a Stinger Heigh10 or the i509 Alpine, does a different head unit help the OEM Alpine system sound better?

Just wondering...thanks!

I switched mine out with the Insane Audio unit. There is definitely a noticeable difference. There is also more options on how to equalize your speakers than the stock units. Keep in mind I changed out the soundbar speakers to 6x9s and had the dash speakers changed out as well, before I had changed out my head unit.

Other than maybe some EQ settings I can't imagine a new head unit alone would help. Maybe some amps and new speakers/sub would do it, but then you're essentially getting a whole new sound system. The 1 in the JL Alpine system is pretty good for a water proof system. People have gotten the TA top dash speakers and said that makes a nice difference, I have a pair in my garage waiting on my JLR.
