If you have never experienced on the highway driving at 50 plus MPH with no windshields, you if you did so......might reconsider ever doing it again. I've owned several motorcycles and many with no windshields and they did not create the same extreme conditions that I had with my street rod many years ago.
Had an appointment at the glass shop to get new glass in my windshield and doors and back glass also. The 15 or so mile trip to the shop was unbelieveable as to the force of the wind coming right at me.
For sure, I have no desire to drop the windshield on my new Jeep as a result.

A lot of engineering (read: money that could be spent elsewhere) goes into making today's Wrangler capable of doing this for the extremely small minority of owners who have taken their windshield down, and the even smaller minority of these owners who do so regularly.

YMMV but it's my #1 feature that should be dropped to reduce costs and/or apply those savings to other aspects of the vehicle.
From an engineering perspective, it might actually be more expensive to redo the design (well) versus carrying it over with a few tweaks from a previous generation.

I would miss the option to remove tops, rear windows and doors, but I agree with others here that the windshield should be permanently attached. I get the history, but when A and B pillars became stock components in a Jeep the windshield should have become a fixed item.

I don’t disagree with the fact that the fold down windshield is useless for most buyers but it’s nice for running wiring. Also some features are just legacy items and considered part of “the brand”. Removing original features is just diluting the concept of the Jeep. Maybe only a very small percentage of buyers care and fold down windshields, removable tops and doors will go away over time.
That's the only time I've folded mine down. I have my switch panel wiring running under my windshield because the usual grommet pass through people use is taken up by the master cylinder.

Also a note for everyone to check their windshield bolts every once and a while. They tend to loosen up over time and you get a rattle that sounds like it's coming from the dash.

Same, and great advice on the hardware for sure. I have checked them a few times thinking they’ll be fine and they’re loose…again.

If it is cheaper in future models, 1) to retain the folding windshield, or simply the 2) pillar engineering for a folding windshield, with no folding windshield, given the $ that already went into making it happen, or 3) reengineer things around no folding windshield, for me its about saving the most production costs to apply to other things.

I have drive. With the windshield down using the straps to secure it. For photography it is an awesome feature. Next time I am in Yellowstone and Grand Teton I will have that windshield down to capture the all American Bison!!

I wouldn't buy a Jeep if the top and doors did not come off!!!! Driving naked is one of the main reasons I have a Jeep...
I'm with you on this.

Folding down the windshield is something I've never bothered to do and don't really care to do, but I do think Jeeps should still have that feature since that's one of those weird quirks literally NO OTHER VEHICLE MADE IN 2025 HAS. Not even the Bronco.

That alone makes it a worthwhile feature to me.

Plus, sitting here looking at a random picture from duckduckgo of a JL with the doors and top off and the windshield folded down?

I think it looks cool. lol. I think it'd look cooler if you just took the panel off. Maybe they should just get rid of the hinges and make it slot into place. But that would be inconvenient.

I always thought it looked hilarious on the TJ and JK because the mirror is still attached to the windshield. :D

Yep. The fact that the glass folds down and the frame stays there defeats the purpose and makes it ridiculous to ever fold it on a JL.

To each their own be careful out there. In my younger days knew a young man with a glass eye. I of course asked him how he lost his eye? June bug he said. I was not wearing eye protection on my mc. Took it right out at about 60mph. Remember also you are responsible for your actions. I can see off road at a scenic drive it would be nice to enjoy off roading and the open air.
Had a June bug hit my helmet one time riding my mc. Thought it was a rock 😎

I folded the windshield once on the CJ while at the drive in theatre.
Back when I was commuting each summer I was seeing a guy in is YJ driving with is windshield down on the high way. Some time with a female companion, not sure of their status but that is a keeper lol.
Not sure if you remember for the JK when they give a curve to the windshield how much it enraged the fan, would expect the same if they remove the fold down.
The day Jeep remove the door and top off, I'm gone.
