TL;DR: Got Red Turtle + Charging System error on my 2021 4xe. Lost HV battery power. Tried charging and replacing the 12V (H7 AGM), cleared codes, rebooted — still dead. Wondering if it’s something else before I limp it to the dealer tomorrow??

Hey all,

I’ve got a 2021 Sahara 4xe with 37s and 5.13 gears. Last night I got hit with the Red Turtle, Red Charging Cord, Red Battery lights, plus a CEL (codes below). A little later it threw a Service Charging System error and I completely lost HV battery power.

Codes:
BCM U1514-87
PTS U0415-00
ABS U0100-00

From what I’ve read, the combo of errors and. Odes often points to the 12V battery dropping voltage. So far I’ve:

  • Trickle-charged the OEM battery overnight
  • Disconnected battery / cleared codes — no luck
  • Swapped in a new H7-94 AGM
  • Cleared codes again, did a reboot + sleep cycles — still no bueno
Anyone run into this and have any other ideas before I tow/limp it to the dealer tomorrow?

Couple quick questions if I do end up going in:

1. Tazer Mini – If I unmarry it, will my 37” tire and 5.13 gear settings stay, or will that mess with driving it to the dealer?

2. Banks Pedal Monster – Is unplugging it enough or should I pull the whole thing out? Does the dealer even care if it’s just unplugged?

Appreciate any help or ideas before I give up and hand it over!

Edit: I should mention the Red Charging Cord, battery and Service Charging System errors only show up when in RUN position with engine off. When I start the vehicle, I have a severe loss of power but only the CEL is lit up - now other messages.

In my experience with the 12v battery going out there was a lot more codes and no ability to shift out of park.

I would reset codes, remove the aftermarket electronics, disconnect battery, I’ve read turning on the headlights helps drain any charge in BCM. Then battery back in.

Could be BCM connection issue like loose cable.. or bad BCM.

I just got back from dealer. He's certain it's the HV Battery. Said he would have an engineer look at it and file. STAR ticket.

He's seen a handful recently requiring replacement. Said the battery on a recent replacement took about 8 or 10 days to arrive. Fingers crossed I can get it back in a couple of weeks.

Your vehicle is probably part of the new battery recall too.
