I am used to sports cars that stop on a dime. I had to brake the other day and the JL kept going and going and going. I have 2021 JL 4 door Rubicon and I know it is a heavy truck. It came with stock tires. Any ideas what might be better... all terrain all season. I do easy off road trails no rock climbing or difficult stuff. I am in So Cal mostly freeway and street driving.

Thanks

I can’t really help you on which tire. Maybe a Highway tread tire? But you’ll never get close to a sports car’s braking capabilities. Maybe upgrading to a big brake kit like power stop offers. Wish I could be more help.

Weight reduction and worse aerodynamics. Strip it down it will stop better.

Lighter wheels and tires will help too.

Big brakes will do nothing unless you do lots of 100-0 stops over and over.

Did your Rubicon come with the MT’s?

If so, switching to KO2s will help considerably.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
Look into a better biting brake pad, the newest Hawk pads should provide better stopping performance. This will result in quicker rotor wear and dusty wheels but the tradeoff is very worth it!

I have KO2 pressure about 33-35. It is not that the wheels do not stop...its more that the grip on the road is not that good. This is my first truck/jeep so I think I just have to be cautious.

Firestone Destination AT2, Bridgestone Dueler Revo 3 maybe even a Nitto Dune Grappler. I can speak for the first 2 but not the 3rd. Also check out what Yokohama has to offer, I haven’t kept up with them though.

Practice your threshold braking skills every time you get behind the wheel.

I’ll give you the old man answer (even though I’m only 30), increase your following distance from what you are use to in your sports cars since your limited by the Jeep’s breaking performance. Second put defensive driving skills into practice, Anticipate people will cut you off, pull out in front of you, run stop signs, ext…
I’m use to driving simi trucks and motorcycles so this driving style is a must for me. Simi trucks no one cares about, motorcycles no one sees.
