At first, I thought there was just 4 steering complaints. But luckily I scrolled down further and discovered that was page 1 of 24. I wonder if others will make the same assumption that there are only a few and not scroll down far enough to see there are multiple pages then assume it isn't that big of a deal. I counted 83, is that about right?

You can see the tags at the top. "Steering" has 84 currently. However, "structure" "suspension" and others also mention steering concerns. But yes, 120 total complaints and 4 recalls. For as many as they sold, not sure 83 is a large number but filing complaints and looking at them is a new thing to me. Perhaps others have input on it.

It is funny / irritating when the dealership service department says "what steering issues on the JL, there are none." They aren't even aware of the steering TSB. Then when you (a 'dumb' customer that doesn't 'nearly' know as much as they do about vehicles), tells the JEEP dealership the TSB number, they say "oh, I'll be darned". Aren't dealerships supposed to know MORE than their customers about technical problems?

Not sure how many it actually takes to cause a STIR? I do know (as mentioned before) that in 2007 quite a few of us filed a complaint about the 2007 JK completely shutting down while driving. Jeep finally did a recall (all it took was a flash of the PCM) not sure how that happened though

About how many reported the 2007 JK problem you mentioned to the https://www.nhtsa.gov site? That could give an idea of how many it takes for the steering problems to get noticed.

thats interesting. I put in my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and there were only 112 total complaints on it in 4 years. The 2018 JL has more complaints in its 1 year and majority is steering. yeah, its a jeep thing with JL steering and we are Jeep noobs.....

You know what though I traded in that 2007JK with 225,000 miles on it for the 2018 JL. The engine was leaking a little and I might have had trouble passing this NY emissions test I fooled the emissions testing for 4 years by erasing the codes but eventually had to get a new CAT but it served my well original transmission also!

Ok!! Just got back from the dealer please see my photo and list of improvements below after TSB 08-092-18 was applied. TSB# was included in the dealer write up.

1. Steering Wheel Play- it has been significantly reduced. When I turn the wheel when parked and engine off, it now feels like my wife’s 2016 Durango.

2. Wandering- it is gone. The Jeep does not wander anymore. I can keep it in my lane and if steering input is needed it’s very little. Just like a normal car/SUV. This has been tested both city and highway speeds.

3. Ball Joints - as you can see in the write up. They were checked and no adjustment needed.

4. I did not mention anything about adjusting the steering box.

Out of curiosity, when was your jeep built? The TSB indicates the Jeep applies to those build before March 2018...mine was built in July but I still have the issue. I took to the dealer today and the mechanic stated that they cannot "flash" the system unless there is a "bolt"...anyone know what this means?

Not sure what a bolt is? Maybe he meant a TSB Technical Service Bulletin. I think some dealers will not do the flash unless your VIN is included in the TSB and I think some will. I was going to bring mine in also built in July but I am going to wait till my first oil change to see if it improves (some forum members have said it did/does with time) or a new TSB is issued.

Interesting. Mine was built in March and the dealer said the TSB did not apply to mine. @JeepCares was able to contact them and get them to apply it. My wandering is now almost gone and I only have some steering wheel play left which I believe is keeping it back from that final full fix. I wish I could have my 15' JK back just to compare. My JL might actually just be at the "jeep thing" stage now when it comes to steering. I have also thought about going and test driving some newer built JLs at my local dealer to see. I have no idea what a "bolt" means.

I dropped my JL Rubicon off this morning to my local dealer to fix my wandering speedometer issues.

They have known about my steering issues since I bought it new in April. Wandering on the road, and dead spot of about an inch in each direction from dead center (basically all the issues everyone has been talking about).

The Lead Tech working on my JL today found a new TSB that came out last night and applied the update to mine.

He explained it to me that the hydro-assist was turned down from 0 to -8 in my Rubicon.

I got in and immediately noticed that the steering was a little more difficult to turn, but not bad. I would say if is was 100% before it might me 150% now.

My dead spot is GONE, and it drives straight! Feels like any other SUV or truck that I have driven.

I do not have a TSB number, and it is not listed on my paperwork.

I wanted to let everyone know if you are having the steering issues to get it to your local dealer and have them apply/flash the steering update.
