My Steering Issues Have Been Fixed!

Hey guys, for what it's worth, I had probably -10 to 10 degrees of play in my steering. Just took it in for TSB 08-092-18 and the dead zone is pretty much gone. Sounds like there's a mixed bag on this issue, but just wanted to chime in as one for the computer fix

I had the steering TSB applied a couple weeks ago and just got the new back on Tuesday. I wasn’t sure if it did anything until today. The Jeep hasn’t been trying to randomly switch lanes on me. Either it worked or I talked myself into it. I was a little nervous passing a truck on I70 at just over 70mph but I didn’t fell the Jeep trying to jerk me into another lane. I still need more seat time to really tell but it seems better than it did 2 months ago.

I have had the same issue with my JL Unlimited since day 1. I contacted my dealer and he found the TSB # 08-092-18 and applied the fix this morning. During the ride home my jeep steered like a new vehicle. I was able to feel quite at home driving with with my arm rested on the window ledge and controling the jeep with my thumb and index finger. I am so glad it is fixed.

Same here. My JL Rubicon the steering has been loose and sloppy since mile one.

Same here. My JL Rubicon ABS/4 wheel drive light went on episodically at 600 miles and the steering has been loose and sloppy since mile one.

What is really sad is that my dealer never heard of TSB # 08-092-18 until I told them about it. When I talked to them about the steering problem, they said exactly this "All Wranglers drive like sh*t, get used to it". Aaaaaannnnkkkk. Wrong answer morons. I test drove the exact same model with the same tires and it drives way better and yes, I checked the air pressure in both vehicles. The test drive vehicle had 45 psi and mine has 37, so can't blame the tire pressure either. Mine still has a lot of slop at any tire pressure level.

JLUR - initially they blamed the 37’s, so I requested TSB.

Took mine in last week for play in the steering. After 3 days and lots of encouragement from me to apply the TSB, They told me it was not applicable to my jeep and theymwouldnbe liable if it made it worse. They gave me a number for corporate customer service. They said they will only do what FCA instructs. Obvious covering their own as..s is more important than fixing my jeep.

Can someone tell me what the next couple of steps on my part should be. Also Im in Jacksonville, Florida. Jacksonville Chrysler Jeep is where I bought my jeep and who just refused to fix it. Has anyone in my area had any luck with other dealers?

Sent Jeep Care a private message. I have a appt for the TSB and if my dealership gives me a hard time I am contacting Jeep Care they said they would contact the Dealer we shall see if I need their assistance if this is true

@JeepCares called my dealer and setup the appointment to apply TSB 08-098-18. so far I think it helped with wandering. Not sure about steering wheel play though. curious to see how others are and if mine is now normal. my video is here.

Does anyone know the proper torque numbers for the bolts on the control arms? I've read that they have been known to be overtightened so I want to check them.

Hello Bruce B when was your build date? Mine was July and making an appt to take it in for the TSB but read that one poster said the TSB made it worse! Thanks

One day FCA will issue a TSB or Recall on these steering issues, THEN we will be able to say "see, I told you so", "it isn't a fu*king 'Jeep' thing". It is like when you call Comcast to report an outage and they want to send a tech to your house because it must be your equipment even after you tell them your neighbor's internet is down too. Then you call back in an hour and they say there is an outage in your area. No sh*t Sherlock, that's what I told you 1 hour ago.
