I bought this scissor jack from Amazon for two reasons which I prefer over the OEM jack:

1) has a wider base plate

2) has a cylinder on the top

OEM jack has to be cranked to the max and maybe with a 2x4 underneath to be useful for a Jeep with a lift and larger tires.

The aftermarket scissor jack comes with a ratcheting bar (11/16” hex). I ordered a 7/8” ID 1-1/4” OD 2” length brass bearing from Grainger which fit perfectly as a spacer between the cylinder at the top of the jack and the adapters from Safe Jack. With the scissor drive cranked about halfway, I am already achieving 17” lift.

brass spacer (pack of 3)

All together it’s over $150 plus tax and shipping. But it makes for a nice compact kit. The jack comes from China but Safe Jack and the spacer are US made.

The amazon link shows that the jack is designed for 1.8T or 3800lb. The curb weight of a JLUR is a little over 4400lbs. I am not sure if that jack is safe to use. not saying it will not work but unsure if it should be used.

I’d much rather have a bottle jack. Those scissor jacks can and do fail at the worst times.

You never have the entire weight of the Jeep on the Jack.

Unless you have this,. doubt it would fit in the storage bin though :(

So which bottle jack can fit in that cubbyhole down there?
I can’t say that I know of one. But that’s not really the point. I’ll be happy to give up some space for a SafeJack bottle than a stamped steel scissor jack. I will say though, the jack you got there does, at least, look more sturdy than the OEM jack. The base is definitely better.

Thank u to the OP for the reply:like: I was wondering the same about scissor or bottle jack! On the Safe jack site their 6 ton has a small foot print measuring 4 1/2" x 4" (they also have a wide base that it can fit into for some extra coin) ..Haven't measured the cubby ..but I think it might fit.

I can get my 6 ton bottle jack in there.

In case the video doesn’t play. The pics show the 6 ton bottle jack in the cubby and the cubby cover secured in place without bulging or being pushed up by the jack.

It’s a Torin Big Red 6 ton. Bought it at local auto parts store. Plenty of places to order one online. Take your pick of favorite web store.

When I am at home I use the 8 ton bottle jack with the Safe Jack accessories because it has a larger diameter that fits the Safe Jack adapters without being too floppy.

The 8 ton jack definitely will not fit in the cubby.

I went with scissor jack because aside from unseen structural defect in given unit due to being cheaply produced in a low quality factory, there is less that could go wrong compared to the bottle jack. Bottle jacks are fairly simple devices that last long too but I didn’t want the hassle of oil leaks in a sideways resting bottle jack living through the heat and cold cycles of being left inside a vehicle all the time.
