My Left Foot ?

I'm guessing most people use their right foot to operate the gas and brake. But dead pedals seem to be pretty popular, and I've been learning about two-footed off-roading (and racing.) So, I made this poll. Go ahead -- vote & add your comments and opinions to the thread.

I still haven't got around to picking out a dead pedal, but find the upright 'kitchen chair' position to be fairly comfortable.

Unfortunately, I think this is the reason my fancy leather seat bottom now has a deformed butt cheek impression only on the left side ?

And as much as I enjoy driving a manual transmission, I'm really not sure what I'd do with my left foot had I bought one of those. Not enough room for a dead pedal, not good to leave it resting on the clutch pedal and too far away to keep it flat on the floor.

When driving an automatic, I use my left foot for the brake. In my Jeep it is the clutch.

I'm short legged, I find it comfortable having my lefty placed flat footed on the floor. Every once in a while, I 'll stretch it out, but it somehow returns to its original position. I 've heard from everyone that has one, dead pedals are great... but being that thats still the "stretched position, I'm not sure if I would like it. Maybe someone with better experience could chime in. Now seat jackers to give a little lean-back seems like it would be awesomely comfortable....

I've been a Formula One fan since Mario's winning season. It's well known that left foot braking is the only fast way around an F1 track, but when asked about using that technique on the street, F1 drivers say that they brake with their right foot - like (almost) all of us.

Fun Fact: a Wrangler is way MORE aerodynamic than an F1 car:

• .45 CofD for the JL
• .70 CofD (at best) for a modern F1 car.

I use the left foot for braking when driving an automatic car. It is not for racing, but I think it is better for controlling the car.

• The position of the braking pedal is not designed for the left foot. I use the right half of my left foot to press the left half of the braking pedal. There is something called braking pedal extension for certain cars.
• The angle of the braking pedal is not designed for resting the left foot on it.

Never thought about adding a dead pedal, but it is an interesting idea.

I have 1" spacers to give more thigh support. I also recently installed a dead pedal - wish I'd done it sooner.

Do the spacers/jackers lift just the front of the seat ? Kinda tilting you back ? Seems like this position would be comfortable.

As far as the dead pedal... I'm 5'10"... and I can get a good footing on my pedals... but I wasn't sure if a DP would have enough reach for me to actually benefit from it... do you k ow about how much adjustment you have and how close to the seat the pedal can be ?

I drove my JL for about 2 months without a dead pedal. Couldn’t imagine driving without it now. The angle is just all wrong without it. For my JK it wasn’t an issue as it was a manual… but I’m getting older and my knees don’t like manuals, no matter how much I beg them to.
