I'm torn between just doing a delete pipe vs cat back exhaust. Basically the cat back systems I'm interested in just replace the stock resonator in the same position with a muffler so it's high clearance. Has anyone done the muffler delete and then decided they want a muffler instead? I want a little louder and deeper tone. I've heard ppl say the delete does that and it's a lot cheaper. Delete pipe$140 and easy install, full cat back around $400-600 and from sound clips I've heard not a drastic difference between the two.

I decided to leave both of mine as is stock. Because I have yet to hear one, that sounds like the V8 B&B Exhaust that was on my Escalade. Very deep mellow sound, rather than the higher pitched drone.

You’ll never find one that makes a 3.6 (or 2.0t for that matter) sound like a v8, they are mufflers not magic. That being said, on our 2.0t sound was not the reason I did the muffler delete at all. The stock muffler is massive, restrictive, and imparts a huge amount of heat in to the rear floor storage compartment. For $120 I gained ground clearance, dropped ~30lbs off the back of the Jeep, no Longer have an oven in the rear floor on road trips, a more free flowing exhaust can’t hurt, and if it drones at all I don’t hear it over wind noise and MT’s rolling down the highway.

For $100 I decided to give the dynomax muffler delete a try, got it on Amazon so I'll take my muffler off the night before and if I hate it I can return it.

Borla Touring climber is what I have on my JL after regretting a muffler delete and getting rid of the stock muffler. It louder than stock, has a nice tone when on the throttle and dissapears at steady cruise.

Ok final thoughts, I pulled the muffler but didn't install the pipe to see if I would like it. It's great at start and rpms below 2500 after 3-4000 rpm it gets real loud but I didn't hate it so installed the pipe and what a difference, I think it's a little deeper tone and no too loud at all. I love it. This is my experience with 3.6, auto, 37s, re-geared to 5.13s with the dynomax muffler delete pipe.

Final final thoughts. I added the airaid cold air intake and I think it actually mellowed out the tailpipe sound. It sounds great now not too loud at all and deeper for sure. It's hardly noticable when cruising. It's loud when you get on it but not raspy. I love it with the muffler delete pipe and airaid cai.

I did similar aFe muffler delete, and was actually surprised as to how good it sounded, a buddy of mine with a Chevy truck v8 actually liked too. Not raspy like a a can of cheap angry bees. Deep and mellow and depending on right foot.
For 140$ can't go wrong! I am waiting on my aFe Super stock intake (with dry filter, I don't like the idea of oiled filter) which is basically a resonator delete. I like the design of the stock air box just want a little more noise. We will see how it affects the sound
