Does the Owner’s Manual confirm that??
Honestly not sure that came from a Jeep tech, I asked because I’m so used to hd diesels they usually suggest going easy with no heavy haul for 500 miles ish

I was in the same boat. I came from a modded hellcat and when I first got the jeep I was averaging around 13-14 with the exact same daily drive. ('20 JLUR) I thought wtf? I didn't buy it for milage but I expected better. I have 20k on the od now and I average 18+ on my regular commute. The motor gets better as it gets some miles on it. I wouldn't baby it, just drive it normal. Yes, it's only a little 2.0 4cyl but it still has to move over 5000lbs. I've read all the threads about people getting mid to upper 20s for mpg. I've seen that cruising it 55 or 60, but that's not how or where I drive. At constant 75 in Fla I think I get around 20? I seem to get better milage driving south than coming back north. Not sure why, but the whole trip (4 hours each way flat Florida highway) usually nets me around 20 mpg.

Yeah I’ll give it some time I figure by mid summer if it’s not better it’s gone, if I’m gonna get that bad of mileage I’d want the HP to back it up lol I do live in a mountainous area literally nothing flat

How is the terrain where you're at? Literally any incline will tank your mileage. Though, I know you're a bit older and used to
I was told there was no break in
Whomever told you that has no idea what they're talking about and I'd take no advice from them mechanically. I'm no mechanic and I know that's very false. You always need a break in period for a new engine and you should see a nice difference in MPG as your engine matures, up to sometimes 25-30k mi.

Also I was fairly certain our manuals had a break-in procedure...

What does "break-in" actually mean? I am a Mechanical Engineer, have worked on cars most of my life and have done lots of machining for parts and even engines. I wonder about this in this day of age (not 30+ years ago). Plus asking for a friend of mine that does durability testing at IAV (they design and test engines for OEM manufacturers). He doesn't know either yet this is all he does (deal with engines). I'm hoping the intranets can give me a modern answer to this (again, not something from 30+ years ago).

I bring this up as back in the day, unleaded fuel was the demise to all valve seats. As we all know, we all suffer from burned valves today due to no cushioning of the lead for those soft valve seats. That's the kind of 30+ years of thinking I'm talking about.

Don’t feel too bad; in my stock 2019 JLR with the 3.6 and manual transmission I’m averaging 11 mpg. All short trips though, 2-4 miles. Back when I was driving mixed highway / city I averaged 17.8.

That was a Jeep mechanic, but anyway most modern engines don’t require a break in period with the exception of larger diesels (for heavy hauling) and high performance engines like a hellcat

I understand all that I’m 47 not a kid lol this seems horrendously low for a little 4 cylinder I don’t drive it like a race car it doesn’t have enough hp for that lol if I want to drive spiritedly I do it in the truck with a 1000 ftlbs of torque. I should add I am in no way beating this thing I’ve been babying it honestly to the point it’s annoying
I'm convinced there is something amiss with the 2.0T software. My 2022 JLUR XR was getting 22 MPG when I bought it, and then out of nowhere it tanked down to 12 MPG for about 600 miles or so.

After resetting all ECUs and clearing all codes, it is back up to about 16.2 hand calculated, and doesn't vary much from that number no matter how I drive it. EVIC always shows 18, which is a lie.

I want my 22MPG back.

Now yours is waaaaay too low no matter how you drive it. I would bet resetting your ECUs and letting then relearn would help.

At the dealer now and as expected the shop foreman immediately took the “we can’t do anything about bad mileage” frame of thought which I had to laugh because he had to ask me what they were rated at said he didn’t know. He reluctantly said he could scan it but he’d almost be willing to guarantee he won’t find anything trying to get me to just walk away I said I’m here it’s a 40 minute ride might as well scan it he seemed annoyed by that lol, so that being said this is not going to go anywhere with them so come spring/summer baring no change I’ll just wash my hands of it

And then what happened?
