Mpg issues

Need opinions on something, I’m going to stop by the dealer but I pretty much know how that’s going to go lol. 2023 JLUR 2.0 non XR bone stock no off roading never even put in 4wd I don’t idle it just run back and forth to work about 60/40 highway/town in northeast PA hand calculated 13.6mpg seems to me something is wrong from what I read I should be seeing around 18 or so which would be great and why I bought the 2.0, possibly something wrong with it ? If this is normal I have no need for it I’d prefer to drive my 3/4 ton diesel anyway

How fast do you drive? The brick on wheels wranglers do fairly decent for economy up till about 65mph. Once you start going faster than that the laws of physics take over and your mpg drop quickly.

Lol sorry about the pic it was a screen shot, only about 400 miles on it now it’s actually gone down hill it started out at 16 mpg now at the 13.6 that you can clearly see ?

Yeah I considered that normally I run 75 on the highway but have tried dropping down to 70 this last tank and literally made zero difference. Driving things with the aerodynamics of a brick is all I know I’ve had nothing but 3/4 diesels for the past 20 years

I think the average MPH driven is important here.

Also, it won't become its most efficient for another 5-8k miles.

May be worth getting a gas analyzer test done by the dealership. This will determine if there is any issue with the combustion process.

I've also noticed that mpg drops off rapidly at speeds over 65mph. I set the cruise at 65 when I'm on the road and I mostly feather-foot when I'm in the city. 11K miles and averaging 24/25 mpg overall in my '21 JL with 33s.

Hope you figure it out so you can enjoy your Jeep. I can say from my experience that mine took about 5000miles to “loosen up” and start getting somewhat “efficient “ . And I’ve also noticed that any type of wind (head or side) has a huge impact on my mileage but as for speed with my current setup my perfect speed is 55-60mph. Any lower and my time lost by driving slow doesn’t equal economy gained. Anything faster and it starts to go south quick. But once I hit 70-75 the mileage is shit and doesn’t really care if I’m at 70 or 85 it’s pretty much consistently bad.

the biggest factor with MPG is the right foot. How fast do you accelerate? Average speed? I have a 2022 JLUR and easily get 18 but it took me a while to learn how to drive it to get that.

Wait until you take the roof and doors off, MPG will bottom out

Bottom out lol it’s at 13.6 now I’ll talk to the dealer but if this is what it is I’m definitely not keeping it has no value to me, I’d much rather just drive my truck at that point I’ll just let it sit and send it down the road in the summer and pick something else up for a toy

give it time and you will learn how to drive it to maximize mpg. I was getting 14mpg on average when I bought mine but tinkered with my driving habits and now easily average 18 mpg

You also have to think about avg temp and the fact that we're on winter blend fuel right now. I have under 2800mi on mine and got it in August. I only use premium so maybe that's something to think about as well. On the way home from TN, almost all hwy between 50-65 I got 27.5mpg.

Now, before we switched blends I was averaging ~22mpg+ (display said 22.5, hand calc to that point was 22mpg or a bit above). Now that we're in winter my mileage has tanked to 19.5 so far, no real idleing. I can see while I'm driving how low the instantaneous gauge stays as opposed to what it did in the warm months. Also keep in mind, EPA numbers aren't ethelated numbers either I don't think. I also drive my vehicles very easy.

Stop n go, quick acceleration and high speeds will all kill mpg’s. With that said, I’ve NEVER seen a tank under 20 on mine and that’s including on and off road time. I don’t hammer it taking off, my driving is a lot of “highway “ speed stuff not stop and go, however I do a fair bit of low 70’s mph driving. I’d say drive it a bit more and see who it does. If it continues to be that low something is wrong.

There's a display setting that shows what your active MPG is at any moment, switch that on and you can see how how you drive and how the road affects your efficiency. I use it to adjust my throttle if I want to be more conservative.

MPG will vary greatly depending on:

• how fast your drive
• how far you drive
• are you prone to quick accelerations
• stop and go versus unobstructed long stretches
• if the road is absolutely flat or not

I went road tripping cross country and put over 10,000mi on my Jeep in 3mos. The slightest uphill in the road, 1-2 degrees, and my MPG would drop. Town and city especially stop and go, terrible. I averaged the entire trip about 29-31MPG because I would mainly drive at night and go 5-11hrs at a time and routinely see 500-530+ miles of range on a full tank at 87.

However, my mileage dropped in states that were not so flat on the roads. Surprisingly South Dakota going west had huge stretches of a very slight upward angle and unless I was going 10 below the speed of traffic it would cut 1/3 of my MPG. Thought something was wrong or I was going crazy, nope....just some imperceptible angle that I needed the slightest more throttle to keep my speed at 70. Jeeps are very sensitive.

I understand all that I’m 47 not a kid lol this seems horrendously low for a little 4 cylinder I don’t drive it like a race car it doesn’t have enough hp for that lol if I want to drive spiritedly I do it in the truck with a 1000 ftlbs of torque. I should add I am in no way beating this thing I’ve been babying it honestly to the point it’s annoying
