These interior pictures are really just a nightmare. You would think that after increasing the price significantly, they’d be giving us a higher quality product. Nope.
Look at all that plastic on the sports bar/pillars. I would much prefer the sleeve over this..

I am on the fence about the fender trim, not sure if I like it because it blends the bumpers in nicely, or I hate it because it looks like a "Pho Flat Fender"

Srsly. As someone who was going to body-color both bumpers and running boards, this is a head scratcher of a move.

I liked it at first because I thought it was two-tone paint. But if it is a piece of plastic, I don't think I will like it as much when I see it in person.

Seems to me that the only significant change is the transmission and diesel. But those two alone surely don’t “fix” everything wrong with the JK

I like the tan interior, suspect it's actually a more likeable color than the washed-out pix shows.
Black is only an "option", not a standard, I hope, even on the Base.

He was talking about quality and reliability. Everything else is cosmetic. I happen to think the JK is outstanding and if the reliability and quality are there, the JL will be a winner.

Why we still have to use a scan tool to see what check engine codes our vehicles are storing - is lame. We all have phones with 50x the computing capacities of our vehicles. Yet we're limited from the anemic functions of the vehicle's computer - like we couldn't figure it out?

You coulda checked them long before that, in fact FCA was one of the few mfrs that allowed you to find out codes without an OBDII tool, going way back before 2000. The method still works on current JKs, and likely on JLs too.
Only a few vehicles have integrated diagnostics as of recently, so complaining about an aging about to be refreshed vehicle not adding the latest screen is a little late in the game to focus on what it has vs others.

What does that have to do with it, your phone will always exceed the capabilities of your car, because one is refreshed every few months while the other is every few years.

If it ever mattered to you that much you could always have added a bluetooth OBDII module to get the additional info.

No, I'm aware of the Jeep's hidden CEL code displays. Hell been using them on my YJ since 1997. But a more detailed diagnostic would be nice. I mean, there are hundreds of sensors on the newest Jeeps, they all are part of the Jeep computer. Would it be hard to have the display show what exactly is the issue? Or even, how to address it?

Shouldn't have to add a reader to an archaic computer system to start with. With the touchscreen displays around for the past 10 plus years and bluetooth, there's nothing preventing this hidden info from being explained in more detail other than the usual 'take it to a dealership'.

My JKUR had the typical Electronic Sway Bar disconnect failure. All you get on the dash is the "Sway Bar" light blinking. Meanwhile the Jeep is battling a failing circuit board that leads to a bunch of other issues (battery drain, vehicle shutting off while driving, etc.). The Jeep computer detects that there is issues with it. What? Instead you get "Sway Bar" blinking on the dash. Thanks.

Why exactly?
In general that just invites more headaches.
People who are competant enough to use the information the system can provide, have been checking the codes for years and addressing it.
Providing a directory of codes on the vehicle is an OK idea, but it would be still better to simply go to an FCA portal online to get more complete info.

Making that open and accessible to more of the unwashed makes it more likely ‘captain fixit’ is gonna F’ it up and make matters worse.
I told a few people how to check codes on their Dodge and Jeep (quite often because of the loose gas cap throwing a CEL), but most people I wouldn’t trust with that info. The information overload extends to the newer TPMS where too many people fret about one tyre being +/- by a single digit, and yet don’t know well enough that the tyres vary wildly due to driving or just the sun being on them. For many just an indicator of which one is ‘low’ would be better than giving them a specific number.

But why would that keep you from taking it in to get it serviced? It’s not a normal condition, and if you can’t read it because you don’t have an OBDII unit, then why not go visit the dealer to address it? Again it’s a prod in the right direction for the average person.

The info pages with extra diagnostics and info is a good thing, but providing a full peek under the hood causes more problems than it solves IMO.
More detailed current status info is always a good thing, but faults should refer people to a proffesionall unless they are knowledgeable enough to know how to access the info already there on offer.

Of course the aftermarket has had this covered for year, even with IA’s JK head unit that you could add not only the Torque app, etc. but add the service manual if you were so inclined,

I really hope that red is not the sole color offered for the interior. I will literally buy a Sahara to avoid it and piece together the Rubicon pieces myself, or just swap the entire top of the dash.

There are no redwoods on the rubicon trail at least there were none when I traversed it on a jeep jamboree. They are further south, south of kings canyon and the redwood trees are in coastal northern cal. AS far has the river goes I could not find where it is said to have been colored red, in fact all I could find was that the historians do no really know where it is. Perhaps you are correct about it though being red. and after looking at that terrible colored kakai dash, the red color suddenly looks great.
BuT Great grape ape you seem grumpy today in many of your posts..
But I have to say you are also one of if not the most knoweldgable guy here on the this site and I for one do appreciate it.
I haven't had time to read all of the manuals but has anyone seen the tire spec for the rubicon?
