That's a gas guzzler tax it has nothing to do with emissions and everything to do with MPGs.

It's meant to punish the consumer for their poor choices.
Stupid question…..but doesn't a gas guzzler produce more emissions?

I can't read through all 21 pages:
What about the Gladiators? We've been told that the 2.0T will not work with the towing requirements.

Not sure how you jumped that far.

Let's try this again. We agree that government dictates emissions.

See the magenta (pink)? Those are engines with 8 cylinders. Yellow & orange are 10 & 12 cylinders.

Now, at 5.2-liters of displacement there's a bunch of 10 & 12 cylinder engines right in the middle of a pack of 8-cylinder engines. See how the dots are intermixed? If more cylinders = more emissions, They would be significantly above the pink dots, and the orange should be above the yellow.

I am learning as I go and nothing I wrote was meant to be condescending. As a consumer with a few bucks, I would love to walk onto a lot and buy a 8 cylinder TA, but I cannot. I’ve owned many so called sports cars, 911 GTS, X5M, like an idiot, I even bought a Raptor R, but there is nothing like the feeling of a REAL muscle car. I was tempted to buy a 392, but IMO it’s lake a wood paneled station wagon in the 70’s…….don’t mean to piss anyone off. Call it gas guzzler tax or whatever, it’s government control. People with kids that play soccer may not spend $1500 for tax, but many attempting to relive their youth, will pay and there are a ton of people like me. Yes, I can go to one of those custom shops and have it built, actually thought about it, but the car would be a knock off, similar to the Mustang, the model name escapes me.

Hint, it's not because of cylinder count.
Hmmm- the difference between a slant 6 Barracuda and a Hemi Cuda is about $250K, the larger the engine including V8’s the higher the value. The difference between a base Corvette and an L88 is over $1M, this applies to all the classics. Yes, rarity is also a factor with less higher performance/ higher cost ones produced. But if not for the big dogs many wouldn’t be worth squat. IE, I have seen a helluva lot of GT 350 Mustangs, how many did Shelby make ? Vs Recreation/ clone/ tribute ones made from lesser models like relatively cheap 6cyl ones ?
Edit- before someone calls me out there are a few exceptions, Z28, Boss 302, and AAR come to mind. But still nowhere near COPO, Yenko, Hemi, Shelby, Boss 9, etc value.

The thing that makes an L88 valuable is there are still old farts around willing to pay for the nostalgia factor and rarity of the timepiece. It sure as hell isn’t because people long for a time and pay more than a million bucks for Corvettes that go 0-60 in the 5’s and finish the quarter in the 13’s.

MPGs, =emissions quantity.

Wow, another thread about 4 vs 6. Well...... let me get back to my movie. 😉

Since I can't have a diesel or 392 in a 2-door, I just want that new turbo inline 6.

Loved the tiny turbo 2.0L 4-banger in my Evo, but for a heavy body-on-frame vehicle like the Wrangler, sub-300HP/TQ for both the 2.0 and 3.6L is inadequate imo. At the very least, there should be options for the SRT tune for the 2.0 and a factory-installed supercharger for the 3.6L engine.

Guys here are arguing over whether a Big Mac or a Whopper sandwich is more satisfying when you can't eat a juicy steak and both burger joints are out of special sauce.

No, you don't. This thing is a build nightmare. Beyond complicated engine layout for a jeep. Slamming it in a wrangler would require the cab to be removed for just about every repair.

As painfully it is, I’m an old fart! I use to be the youngest in the stack, time caught me, as it will everyone, young fart just do not know it

Jeep gonna drag luddites kicking and screaming into the future.

I will be surprised if they actually stick to this though.
I'll happily be one of those luddites. I drive the 2.0 Turbo before opting for my EcoDiesel and I hated it.

Old fart agrees, but a new loaded Rubi X costs damn near as much as my 21 392- about 7K made per year of production. Future value difference ? We all become nostalgic old farts, should we live so long.

would I have sold my Corvette for $23.5K in 89 had I known one like it, but about 100 less production would sell for $384K last year ? :headbang: 😩 And it was a 6 cyl. (0-60 eventually) that I likely would never have sold if it was a one year newer with a V8.

Have not read entire thread.
Stellantis has learned nothing from slow sales and dealer revolt. I personally like the manual but not a fan in the JLU. Wouldn't an automatic get better mpg if they're really concerned about the fuel economy on the V6. Jeep has one engine that's worthwhile and it obscenely out of reach for most people. Sadly this is the direction the euro centric owners are taking this brand. Not holding out hope for the next iteration of the Wrangler in a couple of years.
