As someone who drove Pentastars at altitude every day for six years, and then made the switch, I can tell you those people are full of shit.
I bought a 2012 JK when I lived in the low elevation flatlands of flyover country. It was adequate. Then I moved to Denver. No longer adequate. To those people I say:

But many of us that do know enough to have informed opinions find the 2.0 to be pretty darn good, good enough that we'd take it in a JL over the 3.6 every single time if given a choice.
There are dozens literally dozens of you...lol

I understand that members of this forum are a different but I'm talking about the average dumbass consumer here.

What if I told you the 2.0 sells faster than the V6?
The 2.0l sells faster because it's what FCA puts on lots. People want what they can have today...and most never get to try a V6.

Dealers REALLY try to push the 4cyl turbos. When I was shopping for my Silverado they wouldn't shut up about the "TurboMax" despite the fact that I made it clear from the moment I introduced myself that it was not an option for me.

Sells faster or sells more? At the biggest dealer here, the V6 is selling the most. The 4 makes sense here at altitude, as does many turbo 6s. Would be interesting to see national numbers- V6 vs. 4 vs. 392.

Yeah you're right, right in your own mind maybe.

I test drove the 2l and 8-speed combo and was less than impressed.

And before you start in about oh my God the factory clutch is junk understand that I don't care what the factory parts are or aren't. Literally pointless.
Stock parts are pointless, the v6 makes 400+hp...after you add the supercharger.

I would get either one though I am more familiar with the Pentastar. I live in Denver and also have a place at 9,500 ft so a turbo or V8 is easier and more fun to drive. That said, I am on my 3rd V6. HOPEFULLY, it is reliable over time. That is all I care about. I was going for the 392 but I like building light Jeeps for off-roading and 35/37 is it for me. I would have loved to see the diesel still going. Does Chrysler ever publish the sales breakdown?

I've never replaced the stock clutch with another stock clutch in any vehicle I've ever owned so how good or bad the stock clutch is literally doesn't matter to me. I wouldn't mind having a supercharger but you definitely should replace the clutch before you install said supercharger.

I mean, if you're thinking about trying to boost a 3.6 you might as well instead gut the engine, sell it for parts, and install an engine that can handle boost.

Obviously you aren't replacing the stock clutch with another stock clutch, but I'm also not buying a brand new vehicle that needs a new clutch either?

2.0T is also $2000 cheaper, so any sales advantage has to take that into account.

I lived with the 2.0T for 3 years (granted as part of the 4xe drivetrain) and I was happy to pay that $2k premium to get back in a V6. I live in the flatlands, and I just wanted uncomplicated and relatively refined versus the 2.0T.

Settling for mediocrity is fine.

The thing is I was I've already had one small turbocharged Jeep. My Renegade had the 1.4 with the turbo. It's not like I'm against the idea entirely I just don't want it one in my Wrangler.

The whole uncomplicated angle always makes me laugh with the 3.6. There's is NOTHING that is uncomplicated with this V6. I say this as someone who currently owns one and used to own two other versions of it (OG 3.6 and a 3.2), and doesn't even dislike it. This engine is every bit as complicated and full of harebrained modern construction techniques as any modern turbo.

Your oil cooler is water cooled, your EGR is water cooled, your intake plenum is plastic, you have VVL and VVT, your multi-pressure oil pump can operate as low as 6 PSI and be in spec, you have to remove the intake plenum to do a simple spark plug change, and on and on. The 3.6 in a JL is pretty damn complicated.
