Alright I just went full-on beast-mode in my Moab in 2H and no traction control. I had absolutely no problem getting into and out of the mall parking lot, and it was even covered with hardly-packed snow. Was actually kinda fun!

Lockers schmockers!!!!

Oh, another Rubi joined the party.
Yep. Before that I had a sport and loved it. The Rubi this year had some features I wanted so I went that direction. If I go back to a sport in the future I’ll still be happy and won’t feel “inferior”. Be happy with your decision and don’t feel like you need to justify it by beating up the other builds. I have never intentionally tried to bash Moab owners. I simply agreed with OP and thought it should be equal or better than the Rubi if it’s branded Moab. You didn’t buy it because it was better than Rubi you bought it because that’s what you wanted. That’s a good reason to get one.

Look, let’s all understand that only about 5% of the cars and trucks on the road are used to their potential. When I had an FJ, they had a board ripping mall crawlers. When I had an STI, they said people were posers if they didn’t rally, when I had a Tacoma they said people don’t use trucks for hauling anymore, when I had a Sky Redline (remember those?) it was people that didn’t do SCCA. I could go on, considering I have about 10 more vehicles to address. However, it’s all a personal choice. Just be honest with yourself. Don’t talk about lockers and ratios if you know darn well you had to google it. And if you are a heavy off-roader, don’t look down on those that want to be part of the crew. Somewhere in between is me- part time off-roader, but mostly dig the top off in the spring and summer.

Never understood the draw to a huge hp engine in a Jeep (or really anything else) if it didn't also have the drivetrain necessary to really appreciate it. It's not like it's a sports car and it's not like it's made for towing. So what exactly does one gain from a powerful engine that you basically can't use to its full potential?
The sound and acceleration are exhilarating. Some people have zero idea why crawling over rocks is appealing. It’s all about what you like.

Moral of the story after 24 pages. Well said.

The banter has been fun though. One of the best threads on the forum.

I get that part...but you can't really get the full power out of it without scattering drivetrain parts unless you upgrade to tons (and probably the tcase and driveshafts). I guess I don't get half assing something. If you're going to go to all that work and spend that much money....go all the way with it.

It took you 70 hours for a single bumper, Sean. You’re doing too much. Lol

Can't even count the number of hours I had in the buggy. Over 3K as I recall.

Some of us don't need dual locking diffs and sway bar disconnects (especially in Florida where there is not even a small hill). It's a good balance between the Rubi and the Sahara. The MOAB is a Saharacon. I think mine is bad ass.

First, your MOAB is a thing of beauty. That package, in that color, is exactly what I wanted - but I couldn't wait for Sting Gray (which perversely was released a week after my months-long wait for my JL) and the MOAB is exactly the edition I would have wanted, but didn't know what coming down the pike - everything I wanted from the Sahara and everything I wanted from the Rubicon without the things (like locking diffs) that I had no need for. So I'm insanely jealous, but I don't see how the MOAB would be better off road than a Rubi as someone claimed. Still, want to trade for a Granite Sahara?!

OCD I bet your shit is amazing though. Build be a small bumper. Lol
Meh...I learned a lot from the first one. Love it, but I know I could do better now....and have on 2 buddy's chassis.

I'm really trying to decide what direction to take with the next one: 525 hp LS and heavier..... or small, turbo'd 4 banger and as light as I can make it. I definitely still want it to be a 2 seater; not a single seat comp rig or moon buggy....though I'm not totally opposed to rear/mid engine.

Basically, do you spend money on the engine and run boneyard tons that are modified to be stout but heavy (already have 2 pairs of these just sitting around waiting)....or do you spend the money on fabricated axles like Spidertraxes with Tru-Hi 9s or Torq 14s? 4wheel steer or KISS with the lighter set up? Both? Maybe I strip my current one to build a light weight one after building the heavier one for the wife?

I just need to finish one thing at a time. Wife's JLUR isn't done and neither is my Runner. Guess I need to get focused on those first.

Thanks for the compliment.

MOAB is DEFINITELY NOT better off-road then a rubicon. Not sure who made that comment but I knew what i was getting when i bought it. I went to a Jeep dealer to buy a rubicon and this was on the lot. My off-roading consists of mostly trail riding in the Everglades and north Florida. This is more then enough for my needs. This came with mostly everything i wanted already stock. Like i said before there is a Jeep for everyone.

Light mid engine would be insane.

You like motobuilt?

You mean their Jeep parts? I dunno....I've looked over their site and nothing really caught my eye. Though I did like how tight their winch bumpers are. I thought they had a skid system that was smart to have slotted holes but I just looked....I must've been thinking of someone else (metalcloak maybe?).
