$100 says it's the center high lift lobe that I've been talking about endlessly ;)

If it is, it is more confirmation that a Baxter oil filter housing to keep oil up top on cold start (high lift lobe is used on cold start until oil pressure is at the lifters) paired with tuning the High Lift system out will help these camshafts live longer.
Guess I owe you $100! LOL
What?

That’s exactly what I was going to say. Pull valve cover, inspect cams. There’s nothing surprising at all about this.

Fuel pump is an absolute no.
My post was sarcasm. Not surprise. Guess I did good making it to 119k.
Sorry to hear that, what did they say needs replaced and how much is the estimate?
Bank 1 intake cam and rockers, just under $1700 for that.

Here's the diagnostic if anyone's interested.

Uhhhh. Just so you’re aware, your mechanic is partially wrong. These run in low lift at idle when things are running normal, not high lift. If there is a fault, then they stay in high lift.

They start in high lift until oil pressure reaches the lifters, and then the lifters “close” which puts it in low lift mode. The VVL solenoids go through a test monitor cycle while the engine is running. If the ECU determines that a cam/ lifter fails, then it defaults to high lift on the bank of cylinders, which is why his compression reading was different. High lift causes high compression.

This info is directly in factory service data. I posted a TSB on one of my threads that talks about how this system works. Think he just interpreted it wrong. No biggie just pointing it out for anyone doing their own diag on this.

Got it. Still the same fix though, right?

Yep he’s got the diagnosis correct. Most shops can do this repair with their eyes closed at this point 😎🤣 it’s actually quite easy to do on these

Right! Funny, now that I know "the noise" every time I see a 3.6 anything drive by I'm listening....heard at least a couple just yesterday!

Here is the service data I give people who are going through this same thing. Near the bottom is a workflow that should be used when diagnosing this issue because it’s not always a worn camshaft either. Although it usually is. Lol

And won’t work for JL3.6?
Completely different design on 2018 and up. Most mechanics will still replace at camshaft replacement anyways.
