Sounds like they didn't take the valve cover off to check for valve lift. Cause there are cam/lifter issues with that engine.

Yr better off taking it to a real mechanic and not the “techs” at the dealer unless it’s warranty work. I had almost same issue 2017 jk with 75K miles on it never had an issue u til year 5 at 72k miles… and they had no idea back n forth 4 times over 8 months took it to a real mechanic and fixed all issues and jeep ran like new. For a fraction of the cost

Curious if you remember what they found?

If I remember correctly It was lifters and rocker arms and a sensor the dealer said I would need a new engine. The mechanic laughed and said nope. Easy fix. I won’t know the longevity from his fix after 6 months teared it in. But ran great after the fact.

Something like this, with the 3.6, I would suspect bad rocker arms and/or cam. The bearings in the rollers in the rockers fail and the cam ends up riding on the ears that support the rollers instead of on the rollers themselves. Eats into the cam and causes the valve to not open all the way. Any dealership that wouldn't check the cam and rockers with a 3.6 that's behaving like that is not one I'd trust to diagnose your engine.

I had a misfire in cylinder 1, and the dealership without much troubleshooting at all just ended up replacing my entire motor at 52K miles under warranty.
