I just move to the sunny south from NY and the sun here is a little more intense than what I am used to. Looking for some kind of shade to keep on my 2 door Willys as I like to run top down and doors off as much as I can. My 2015 ended up severely faded from the sun but I hate having the top up.

Any suggestions?

I run a Spiderwebshade on my Willys. I got the long version that covers back seat passengers as well. However, lately I've been folding the rear most portion up under the top part for a fully unrestricted view out of the rear view mirror since I haven't had passengers. It's the best of both worlds.

Installation was easy with all the supplied parts and the shade has remained nice and tight so far. No flapping or extra wind noise at speed, and the relief from the sun is very nice. I'm also able to leave the shade on the Jeep when I put the hardtop on for the winter, since it has cutouts for the latches.

I run a spider web shade on mine as well. I went with the JL2D product, it goes from the windshield, over the sport bar, and covers where the backseat would be. This is different from the long that goes down behind the backseat headrests a bit, and different from the JLKINI-2D which only covers the front seats. The primary reason I went with the JL2D that goes over the sport bar is that I feel that head room in the JL is already a bit tight, I had the theory that going over the sport bar would help hold the shade slightly higher. Not sure if it really makes a difference but I haven't noticed a reduction in headroom. I also think the longer length is nice for my setup as it helps keep a bit of sun off of the slipstream which can get remarkably hot in direct sunlight, in theory this also helps my cooler stay cold. Just to be clear, I do not have a backseat in my JL, so I do not know how this shade would perform for those riding in the back but I don't see a reason for needing the longer one.

As far as quality goes I have been happy with spider web shade. I had one for a long time in my TJ and it never gave me issues. The one in the JL I did end up with a damaged bungie on the front from the windshield, but I believe it was my fault. I run with the windshield down quite often and I suspect that one of the times I had flipped up the windshield in a hurry (like when I'll be getting on a highway) I failed to notice a bungie had shifted. I ran the header bolt along side the cord and it tore. Spider Web Shade replaced the cord without question, but I did have to pay to ship the damaged part there first so it did cost me a small amount of $$$ and time.

I also have a Spiderwebshade but have the short version that just covers the front seats. It’s just enough coverage to protect our heads from direct sunlight and has helped reduce sunburn since we put it on 2 years ago.

I was told the Spiderweb shade will work on the new 2024 JL with the side curtain airbags and the revised sound bar. I don't have our Jeep yet to verify, but I'm hoping they wouldn't tell it would fit it is doesn't.

I just take my windows out and leave the top up - aka safari mode. Why buy another thing that does the same job?

I have a two door with the 2 piece Master Top sun shade. Works great, holds up well, no flapping at highway speed. And I don’t have to remove anything to put freedom panels and hardtop on. ?

I just put a JtopsUSA mesh on mine today. Chose that one as it seems it should be the easiest on and off once you set the buckles. Very secure, seems good quality, we use the same mesh on my yacht, 6 years in the FL sun and it still looks like new. I actually have enough mesh left over from the boat that I could have made my own but don’t have time (and wanted black) but nice to know they use a high quality material.

You get wet? I guess I don't really understand the question. The spider web shade holds up just fine to rain, I've had mine in some decent hail without issue as well. On my TJ I had it covered with a wet snow and it sagged a lot but once I got it cleared off it went back to the original position. I'm sure big enough hail, or heavy enough snow, would cause an issue, but rain passes pretty much directly through it. One downside of these webhades in a rainstorm is it turns big drops into a bunch of little drops. So you pretty much get misted in the face. I think I prefer the big drops as I can block a good number from hitting my eyes/face just by wearing a hat. With the mist, there's no hope.
