Hi everyone,
I'm based in Sydney, Australia and couldn't find a bumper hoop locally to beat the Maximus-3 Classic so ordered it direct from the factory in Michigan. After Australia Customs screwed around with it for about three weeks, I finally got my hands on it.
Just finished installing the hoop and thought I'd post a couple of pics here. Installation was about 40 minutes, basically because I'm pretty useless at this stuff. The hoop came with instructions which weren't bad but I'm beginning to wish I had done a video to share as I couldn't find any of this model online.
I picked up the JL in early August and so far I have:
* installed the Maximus-3 Classic Bumper hoop. I installed it facing forward for two reasons 1. I think it looks more aggressive and 2. kangaroos have a tendency to get their arms and legs in all the wrong places so this was some extra protection away from the easily broken parts of the front of the vehicle
* taken the end caps off the steel bumper - I like the stubby look with the exposed tyres
* installed a Brawlee light bar in the rear window - what a difference - definitely recommended. I ran wires to both the internal light and also 12v power outlet and fitted a two-way switch so I can have "door-open/switched" or permanent power to the light
* installed additional grab handles above driver and passenger doors
* installed a 4k dash cam
* installed a stubby antenna
* installed a Bolt Lock on the front grill. Couldn't bear the thought of some idiot messing around in the engine bay when I'm not around
* installed a Qi powered iphone holder which charges the phone on the run. This is clipped into the a/c vent between the steering wheel and the driver's door so sits off to the side out of the way. I like the dashboard looking clean and unobstructed so this was the best solution for me
* purchased a ton of the necessary off-road recovery gear
* acquired a twin-cylinder Thumper air compressor for airing up and down
* acquired a pair of maxtrax
* installed the mopar fold down rear table in the tailgate
* installed the mopar rubber floor mats
* installed a Hayman Reece Towbar
She's looking all pretty again in the pics after being caked in mud following the last road trip.
What's to come....
* Looking at winches right now
* Additional lights or light bar
* Lift and tyres - a difficult one for me right now because I might not be able to get her in the garage with much more height
* Off-road camper trailer - looking at the Air Opus - super-impressed with these
* Planning a lap of Australia - about 25,000kms so need to get the set up just right
Hoop was important as there are thousands of bloody kangaroos out there just waiting to jump out and mess up your front grill.
Pics of the hoop.......
