Getting ready to order my first modern jeep. ( I've owned a 53 willys wagon, 88 Comanche, 82 CJ 7 and a 95 YJ I bought new that I kept for 18 years)

Anyway, want a 2dr manual and 4.88s just because its offered from the factory. I plan to do a small 2.5" lift and run 37's. How will this fancy v6 motor do on 37s and this ratio? My YJ I ran 5.38s in my wontons to run 38s.

Also because it's important. Daily driver, Florida. So wheeling is local bullshit with about 4 trips a year avg to east coast wheeling. Think Morris mtn type wet clay rock crawling..

I run 38’s with no problem in southern Ohio hill country. You don’t need to rev the crap out of it for it to run well either. I usually run around staying between 2000 to 2200 rpm’s while cruising.

I'm at elevation in my 4dr with 4.88s and 37s. Runs fine. It's not winning any stoplight races but it pulls plenty hard enough to pass on the highway.

I have it and am happy. 37s and 4.88 are fine offroad and on the highway (Note 4:1 transfer case with the Rubicon)

I am running am factory 4.88s on 37s with 2.5” lift. Seems like a great combination and would recommend… However, it doesn’t drive as as well under windy conditions at interstate speeds. Other then that, it’s great.

May as well throw a picture into the mix.

Nobody has mentioned towing (understandably once lifted and on 37s) but it sounds like I should go for 5.13 to accommodate my occasional towing if I plan to get 37s?

It would definitely seem so.

If only there were a gear ratio that improved handling in windy conditions at highway speeds. You sure as can bet Jeep is designing a software update for this on the 4 door. :)

Awesome pic btw.

I know you're trying to be funny. But there's a very noticeable difference going from stock to a lifted Jeep on 37s in high winds on the interstate... I don't think I would do it again for a daily driver. However, the gears really do help going uphill with 37s. Headwind or not, I rarely have to come out of 6th to maintain speed going over tall bridges (we don't have many hills in Florida).

No doubt that the lift and the 37s increase instability on windy roads at speed. Big brick turned into giant brick.

I’m getting 4.88 gears installed on my 2020 Rubicon with 35’s next week. I live at 3000 feet and it’s hilly on the eastern slopes of the Rockies. So running about 4000 feet and tow either my enduro bike or quad the odd time, I think it’s the way to go. If I lived on the flats below 1000 feet all the time, I might have just stayed factory at 4.10. Lots of people ( not this thread) say. gearing is picked based on tire size. Period. That is so wrong!
