I've been getting to some project ideas I've had in mind for a while.

One was that transmission heater block-off plate. Finished machining that recently.

Another was a simple trammel to set alignment toe-in. Finished that this week too. Needs some paint on the square tube and pointers to keep them from rusting.

Is the transmission heater part a known weak link? Just curious about the intent of the block-off plate. TIA.

James,
It's the subject of a thread in the transmission forum, where a guy had interference with his aftermarket driveshaft and the heat exchanger. 850RE Transmission heat exchanger delete | Jeep Wrangler Forums (JL / JLU) - Rubicon, Sahara, Sport, 4xe, 392 - JLwranglerforums.com

Yes, the original design valve body/heater was problematic and caused overheating of the fluid. It had a thermostatic valve to route the fluid thru the heater or bypass it, which was apparently a chronic issue where it caused overheating of the fluid when the valve sticks. So, this valve body is the new one without the thermostat valve, but it still had the engine coolant heated heat exchanger to heat the transmission fluid. I don't know how that solved the issue.

I am getting a new aftermarket driveshaft and it may or may not interfere. However, I'm in the southwest and want to delete the heater function altogether, to have the least heat input to the transmission fluid.

Why are there only 3 fluid hose connections and not 4, like on the JK trans theromstat block? Can you tell what ones are inlet vrs outlet?
Thanks
