I read that at my dealership this morning, but, according to it, the symptoms it addressed occurred when conditions were cold and went away after things warmed up. This is the exact opposite of the conditions present when the majority of us have experienced the steering locking up, i.e., locking up when it's hot and operating relatively normal when cold or cool.
Yep, and you don't need much steering assist when it's high speed, so this doesn't seem to address the issue the OP and so many others are experiencing.

Just and update on my side. I had the recall U62 done and haven’t seen a lock up issue since. It hadn’t occurred a few days before the update either but I’ve driven quite a few miles (600) since then with temps from 70-95 and nothing so far.

Jeep is back at dealership today because of excessive steering play. Excuse it’s hard to keep the Jeep in the lane. Sometimes it’s better than others but always seems to overcorrect.

I’ll see what they say but no lock ups is good news.

A TSB was just released regarding the symptoms the OP was describing - Steering Locking at highway speeds.

NUMBER: 0809218
GROUP: 08 Electrical
DATE: July 7, 2018

SUBJECT:
Low Steering Assist at Highway Speeds
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves using wiTECH 2 to perform a Restore Vehicle Configuration routine. The reconfiguration will update the ElectroHydraulic
Power Steering (EHPS) calibrations.

You can show this information to your dealer for further assistance. This TSB, as far as I know, does not address other steering symptoms customers are describing such as loose/steering has play. As always, please send us a PM if you have any additional questions.

Can somebody post a link or the text of the complete TSB?

Thank you for updating me on this. Please know that we do still recommend having your dealers look into this TSB as remedy. Feel free to send a PM if you require any additional assistance.

Hello. I want to thank you for making this suggestion and update you regarding my Jeep. I went back to my dealership Wednesday morning (7-11-2018) and they kindly performed this TSB remedy for me which, as you pointed out, updates the electro-hydraulic power steering (EHPS) calibrations. The reconfiguration took only 10-15 minutes and it worked like magic!
My steering now feels much more stable and much less vague. Also, and most importantly, the "locking up" condition is completely gone. My current understanding of the issue is that the power steering is not assisting the steering enough at highway speeds causing you to fight your steering just as if your vehicle had stalled out. As we all know, trying to turn a vehicle equipped with power steering when your vehicle isn't running is not an easy task. Of course, no matter what the cause of this steering problem, the important thing is that the reconfiguration described in this TSB is fixing it. Yesterday (Friday), I tried my best to duplicate the locking up condition and could not. In contrast, just the day before, I was able to induce the locking up condition almost at will. So although a very unpleasant experience, especially since this condition first occurred when my daughter and two grandchildren (ages 4 and 1) were in the Jeep with me, Jeep addressed the problem in a timely manner. I would encourage anyone having any kind of steering issue with their Jeep JL to have this TSB reconfiguration done. My problem did not meet the exact description of the problem in the TSB but it was still the fix for my Jeep. I think it's worth giving it a try.

I gave my steering further testing over the weekend by driving on a good number of the many winding, rising and falling roads (complete with hairpin turns) we have here in the mountains and I confidently negotiated them all without a hint of trouble. A week ago, I wouldn't have dared to drive on any of them! I'm officially declaring my steering 100% fixed! Thanks for the fix, Jeep!

Maybe it's just me, but I would have tested it in an empty parking lot.

If you read my comment more carefully, you'll note that I said I did "further" testing over the weekend. That means I did prior testing before driving on the winding mountain roads. Comprende?

Sounds like we are making progress! All you bold early buyers are taking one for the team, by the time a 2door arrives at my dealer it should be clear wheeling :O

Grumpy much? I believe the post that you are referring to was written with levity. Let me guess... this is your first Wrangler. Figured so. Now go shoo the neighborhood children off your front lawn.

I never completely lost my power steering like that. What, if anything, are they doing for you? I would think a brand-new power steering pump should be the first order of business and then go from there.

This sounds like the same fix I got for my Wrangler. 1000+ miles since the fix with no issues as of yet. Glad to see the same fix worked for someone else and will be interesting to keep an eye on this thread to see if it helps anyone else.
