Hey Guys,

I’m looking for some help on finding a cheaper, louder audio system for my Jeep Wrangler JL. The stock audio is not loud at all and is very bad quality. Trying to look for a solution for under $600.

Replacing the upper dash speakers is a big improvement many do on a budget.

There's a mold that lets you put 6x9 in speakers in the front. That would increase the sound in the whole cab. You could probably do it by yourself with mid level speakers for around $600.

3.5 replacements in the dash and sound bar are the simplest. I put Kenwood Excelon KFC-X3C 3.5”s in and it made a big difference. They are more efficient, thus sound louder. There are many 3.5”s that work and are cheaper too. This was the biggest improvement for the cost. about 180 for both with the adapters.

I decided I wanted fuller sound.

I ended up putting in 6x9”s in the sound bar. About 200 for the speakers and the quart 6x9 kit.

Next I put in Morels. 6.5 in the knee panel with pods and the 2 1/2”s in the dash. 349 for the speakers and 50 for the pods, 400 total.

overall I’m happy with the sound and improved loudness, was about 600 and overall sound quality improvement over the 3.5”s. The 3.5”s were bright sound wise and I wanted something warmer with a littler more mid bass.

I most likely will add the alpine 445 amp which is another 200 as the system could benefit f the power.

If it were me, I would buy the Metra 6.5" pods for the front, and make a set of plates to put a 6.5" in the soundbar. Spend the money on the speakers, the part that actually changes the sound you hear.

If you currently run the stock alpine system, just add an amp and sub. I did this 12'sub and memphis amp-after install 720.00 out the door install and runs good with Alpine system. Also it's easy to remove the sub when I decide to do the camping thing and I need that extra room.

Here's how I did mine for around $300. It's too loud when turned up all the way and it accurately reproduces all frequencies (as well as can be expected with no sub woofer) through at all volumes without distortion. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/base-system-speaker-upgrade.75015/post-1562924

I'd do sound deadening first before upgrading speakers. It would kill some of the road noise and make your heating and air work better.
