Need suggestions for easier trails in Big Bear area. One in the group does not like technical stuff. Maybe something more than a fire road but not too technical. Thanks.

Check out little John Bull. It’s not hard by any means but it does have a couple obstacles. It’s the both directions are pretty fun. I don’t remember the trail number but you take 3n16 to 3n32 and just before the John Bull trail head you can turn veer right on to John Bull flat road that leads you to burnt flat road which is 3n02 And takes you back out to 3n16 I’d give it a 3-4 rating for difficulty

We did that with them last year. Had a good time in Pioneer Town. Might do it again & go to the other bar.

Been too long since I drove some fun ones in my old Cherokee.
I recommend Wells & Peterson's book "California Backroads & 4-Wheel-Drive Trails".

Get the TrailsOffroad ap, you can download maps and find trails all over the country. You also get trail condition updates.

You could also do coyote canyon to pioneer town. That’s a blast of a trail. Just be mindful that the ranchers run their cattle through the canyon so keeping the speed down is a good idea since they own some of the land in the canyon.

If you want easy and beautiful, take 2N49 Bailey Canyon up from the San Bernardino valley into Silvood Lake. From there you can grab lunch in Silverwood Lake, then head east along Rim of the World Highway past Running Springs and pick up 1N09 City Creek. That runs 22ish miles and is beautiful as well. Once you hit the end of City Creek you can head back out to the 38 and take that back down to the valley if you wish.

Definitely get Trails Offroad and subscribe to the premium plan. Download the trails you want to drive, and have a proper GPS app like Gaia with the map for the area downloaded as well. Carry a paper map too. It's easy to get turned around on some of these trails up there if you aren't familiar with the area.

Pioneertown to Big Bear. Mostly fire road but a few bumpier sections with some offshoot areas to check out.

Just did Burns Canyon, Pioneertown to Big Bear a week ago; excellent scenic easy to moderate trail! Camped on a spur of Tip Top mountain trail; awesome campsite, but be aware that getting to it involves a rocky, narrow shelf road that some may find intimidating.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Took them thru Burns Canyon to Pioneer town last time. I've been putting off getting Trails Offroad so just signed up & downloaded the app. Supposed to head to Big Bear tomorrow (Mon.) "Hillary" may change my plans.

Have you ever heard of Rattlesnake Canyon? It has been a few decades since I explored that area, but I'm thinking it was an offshoot from Burns Canyon. This linked video looks somewhat familiar other than the abandoned cabins along the way, and I remember the road ending, or at least looping back into itself to head back out of Rattlesnake Canyon. I was there to help a friend dry wash for gold, and we actually found a small nugget!

Haven’t done Rattlesnake Canyon. Looks like it goes from Burns Canyon out to 247.
I've watched a couple of videos on it, and both started at the Johnson Valley end. This looks like an easy trail, but can't be the same Rattlesnake Canyon road I was on. Could be the old timer who told my buddy about it just had the name wrong, as we entered from Rimrock/Pioneer Town and our destination was a dead end canyon. That was many years ago so who knows, maybe the road has been extended to 247 now. Anyway, at least it looks like the easy adventure you're looking for. There is a much harder offshoot from the Rattlesnake Canyon trail called Motino Wash if ever looking for a challenge! I found this video to be more informative on the Rattlesnake Canyon trail as it gives GPS coordinates along the way:
