Hi everyone! I recently purchased a 4.5 teraflex long arm kit to lift my 2019 JLU. I originally planned to tackle the installation by myself, but time is getting a bit harder to find.

I'm in a bit of sticker shock when calling around for installation quotes. I've gotten as low as $1500 (which I feel is fair) to as much as 6000. I recognize everyone needs to eat, and it is what it is. I'm a smidge concerned about going with the lowest bidder (although they do have good feedback online). For the middle range cost I can purchase a lift and have a much easier time doing it myself (have tools, but the thought of plasma cutting off those brackets on my back/ground is not appealing!).

Thoughts?

If shop rate is $150/hr (which is common around here), the lowest bid is only 10 hours. Do you want your lift slapped on in 10 hours? Even at $100/hr for 15 hours, I’d still be a tad nervous. Does Teraflex list an installation time in the instructions? Another consideration is that most shops make money on the parts cost also. Walking in with your own parts may have increased their normal installation costs since they aren’t making anything on the parts. JL frames are THIN. I’ve blown a hole in mine with a 110v welder, and watched a more skilled welder do the same on another JL. If the TF long arm requires welding, I wouldn’t trust very many people.

Long arm kits are pretty complex. I went back and re-read the original shop invoice for install of my long arm kit (not teraflex) and it was for 28 hours of labor for the suspension only, not counting gears and other non-lift stuff.

Does teraflex long arm require exhaust re-route?
