Lockers - Rear only vs both

If you read through the posts before yours, that shouldn’t be the case.

I have a follow up question about the stock JLUR lockers since we kinda deviated from the rear or both scenario... If you're in a sticky spot and get stuck without your lockers on... will they lock when you need them? Again, I'm new to lockers in general. Do you need to be able to roll forward or back ward to engage them? Or is that not an issue and just lock when you get stuck? I was concerned I couldn't lock them when I wanted to because they were under tension or something.

From what I know, they should lock up just fine on the spot.

Yeah under tension lockers can bind. Lock and unlock on flat if poss with tires straight. Normally locking is immediate but unlocking can take a few seconds. Same with sway bar disconnect.

So there was three JLURs that climb up Red Cone Pass in Colorado. We did not engage any lockers. It was rocky and a little slick that day. The way the JLUR transfers power from the sliping wheel to the wheel with traction is by applying the brake. By the time we got 3/4 of the way up, all of our rear brakes were heated up, and starting to stick. We literally had to stopped to let them cool off. If we would have just put on the rear locker, we would have experienced no problems. This dealy costed us daylight and we ended up finishing Red Cone and exited off the trail down the north/East side of Websters, pass in the dark.
