Lock er down console safe.

I have a lock er down console safe in my 4runner. It's a complete, one piece unit that bolts into the center console. I love it! I want to order one for my Wrangler when it comes in but I was looking at it on the website and watching some youtube videos and, because of the unique shape of the Wrangler center console, the safe for the Wrangler must be assembled within the console and consists of, basically, two sides and the top that is bolted together. Does anyone here have the Lock er Down safe and are you happy with it? Seems to me that someone could bust through the plastic console wall and gain access as only two sides are protected with the steel barrier. I realize it's unlikely that a thief would have the tools with him to saw or drill through the plastic but it would be pretty easy if he did. With my 4runner safe, it would be near impossible as the safe is a complete hardened steel box.

Curious to see some feedback myself, as I’m cross shopping the Tuffy, Lockerdown, and Consolevault. Looks to me like the construction is similar in all, with the lock being the discriminating factor.

My view is most thieves are opportunistic and low skilled. If it’s a professional with tools or an enthusiast who follows the Lock picking lawyer on YouTube then there’s no hope.

I have the Tuffy safe. Had one in my JK also. Feels very secure. Installation sucks since you have to conform your body into spaces that fat old guys can't really do anymore. But it would take some serious work for someone to break into it.

I'd be perfectly happy with a Tuffy console safe. The odds against the kind of burglar it's most likely to encounter (smash and grab) are pretty good. If you left it parked somewhere unsupervised for a looong time, then there's a chance someone could compromise it. I'm guessing the lock cylinder, either by picking or drilling, would be an easier candidate than cutting through the side of the console itself though.

That's correct. The internal dimensions of the center console limits, or defines, the design of the "safes" among the varying brands that offer one for the JL Wrangler. It also compels parts assembly within the console itself. That's a bit annoying, as I discovered when assembling the Tuffy version, but it does also provide a decent layer of security when complete.

So I pulled my Consolevault from my 22 4xE and to my surprise it does NOT fit the new R392. The console on the new Jeep is about an inch shallower.
I read somewhere that units with the front camera seem to have a shallower console. Or maybe it’s the 4xe that is different. Anyone had this experience. I do not see where Consolevault or LockerDown have a distinction for any different models. This is disappointing as a safe is my very first mod on every truck/jeep I buy. I was surprised that the consolevault on the Wrangler is quite a bit bigger than the GC as that one is tiny indeed and barely able to hols the wife’s P365.

Ditto-pretty pleased with my Tuffy. PITA to install because of space limitations, but pretty solid box. Had one for years on my TJ and never had an issue.

Lock’er Down closed back in 2024. I have their Tacoma safe. For my JL I have the Tuffy. No complaints.

I noticed in the Tuffy instructions a note that states that Jeeps with Selec-trac or Rock-track wheel drive systems have a shallower center console. Isn’t the 392 AWD?

ELI5, please - How does a metal plate “safe” door protect contents from smash-and-grab theft, if four sides are still just factory plastic?

Researching this since new law in Washington state going into effect in January. It states that anybody who travels into WA with a firearm must have it locked in a secure gun vault bolted to the vehicle when not on their person.

If some tweaker breaks into your Jeep while you are in a federal building or other place you can't carry your pistol, and they use that pistol to commit a crime or hurt someone, then you are facing 5 years in prison if you didn't have it locked in an approved safe.

Not thinking that these cheaper console lockboxes are going to be considered legal.

Just curious…bolted? or affixed? as in an approved lockbox that is cable locked securely to the vehicle? In CA the CA DOJ approves safes, trigger locks etc. is there a similar entity there that publishes an approved list?
