"rramo012": Just got off the phone from Jeep Wave representative...I was told that I was the only such gas leak case in their files!!!
I told him that I knew of at least one other case (yours?) where gas had collected in the gas tank skid plate...he said they did not have any other case on record and my situation was unique.
He also tried to say that the spills were just rain water and/or condensate that had collected in the skid plate. When I told him that the 'water' had dissolved the asphalt in my drive way (I took photos) and smelled like pure gas in the puddle in the dealer's service bay...he quickly jumped to another subject
My dealer had me come and drive the Rubi home...they couldn't find any problems. As I was leaving, they informed me that they had not removed the skid plate to check the tank and fuel fittings. (Jeep procedure is to drive the vehicle and if no additional gas spills...there is no problem).

I have also been in communication with NHTSA and told the Jeep rep that I would be reporting back to NHTSA. The rep then changed his attitude and said that he would contact my dealer and authorize the removal of the skid plate and inspect the tank and fittings. It appears that if gas spills from Jeep vehicles...service techs are only allowed to drive the vehicle to try to reproduce the problem. If the Jeep doesn't continuously spill gas...they aren't authorized to go further such as inspect the tank, etc., unless the customer insists.
Call Mike Manley , CEO . Let his staff handle it . I know you are concerned for your family , but you have other vehicles so don't let them stress you out . Maybe if you are patient they will give you a buy back or a swap out . PM me for mike manley's email . ( [email protected] ). There is a dot between the mike and the manley . Good luck .

I got my Jeep back about a week ago and it is running great. Final ruling was an inlet check valve was sticking. Gas could not get into the fuel tank and was instead going into the evap cannister. The tank and canister were replaced. It seems to drive smoother and for the first time, I could fill the gas tank completely full. Glad I found this thread for sure.

Gas tank leak fixed...I hope. Just got my Rubicon back. Jeep replaced the gas tank, the fuel pump, the evaporation canister and tank fuel lines and hoses. When they dropped the gas tank, they found that the 'breather hose' was lying on the bottom of the tank! Essentially I was driving the first 750 miles with a gas tank with an open hole at the top. They think that when I did the 'last tank fill' that the gas pump handle clicked off at a slightly higher level than the previous fills (I always stop at the first pump shut-off). Thus the tank level was higher than before, so gas trickeled out on my drive way...and when it was towed to the dealer...the tilted tank then could dump much more gas on the service bay floor.
From my description of the engine hesitation that occurred at the same time...they felt that the fuel pump also had a problem so they replaced it also.

Well my new jeep is ruined. Interior is saturated with gas fumes. Kids car seats are ruined. I am nauseous and have a migraine already from the fumes. It's being towed 2 hours back to where I purchased it. I'm thankful that we didnt erupt in flames. Danger, beware!

I am stunned at all of the problems this new JL is having. What the hell is wrong with JEEP?

What's crazy is the variety of the problems that are occurring! I think I might go with a JK for now. The JL may need another 2-3 years minimum to work out all these issues.

Absolutely if you can wait on a JL buy a JK. I imagine you can get a great deal and once JEEP irons out all of the kinks on the JL, probably in about 3 or 4 years, buy a JL.

I understand your reservations. After hanging out on this forum and reading about all the issues I almost went with a JK as well.

But I stepped back and thought it through. If you go to a forum for any vehicle and start reading about the problems they are having you would never buy anything. Any mass produced product will have issues. There are well over 100,000 JLs out there, and I'm guessing a vast majority have had very minor or no issues. Plus I couldn't pass up all the improvements over the JK.

I've had mine for 6.5 months with 7,200 miles without a single issue.

Whatever you do enjoy your Wrangler.

I know what you mean but I have always lurked in forums before buying my cars. Usually you start to see a pattern and become familiar with the common issues.

I did this before I bought my f150 3 years ago. Now I have been reading the Tacoma forums, they have a few common issues. However, the JL issues are all over the place. Dropping 45k for a JLUR and getting a dud makes me nervous. What’s worse is it doesn’t even seem Jeep has figured out how to exactly all the common issues. I’ll wait a couple more months until I move to Arizona and reevaluate. Still love jeeps :).
