Yes, I live in Burnaby.

I have a 4xe Rubicon. I go off-roading at least once per month.

I never fill gas my town whenever I am in the city.

I only fill my gas whenever I go off roading, before I head in FSR as well as before I return home.

Whenever you go downhill on a trail just activate max Regen. (I only use e-save when I am on the trail or to the trail.) I would use electric power whenever I climb rocks or do the fun stuff.

Also, let me tell you something that I would really want from the new 24' model, the built-in inverter, where you can now use the hybrid battery to power electric appliances.

Literally when you go camping or overlanding, you have the biggest battery already in your Jeep.. so you want a heater/cooler or whatever you will guarantee to last more than a night.

I would also get a small battery plus some solar panels and connect between the jeep's inverter and whatever that you want running so you can harness Sun.

Despite many saying that the battery is heavy and the trunk space is limited, the power that 4xe offers is real when you hit those hard obstacles.

I forgot to mention, being an EV, I got an EV OK sticker for carpool lanes, and access to EV parking (charging) spaces. Unfortunately, most new bc hydro fast charging stations do not offer our charging sockets, but most other independent charging stations offers fast charging at 2-4 dollars.. depending how long you would need to charge.. given that we have a small battery $2 should get you top up real good.

Can confirm on the power bit. We took ours to Hidden Falls Adventure Park in Marble Falls, TX and hit level 2-3 trails all day, the 4Xe made easy work of every obstacle and felt confident doing so. Not only is the 4Xe efficient around town, and ideal for the driving scenarios the OP mentioned, its added weight gives it a planted stance and enhanced road comfort.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective on the 4xe! I found your optimization of fueling up somewhere in Mission and using that savings for rest of the month is soooo relatable :D

I am convinced 4xe is the my next Jeep - either in a Wrangler or a Gladiator. The only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger is the lost value in selling my current rig, and the additional 30k I need to cough up to get a lightly used 4xe. Getting a new one is even more steeper and hits hard in terms of economic set back. Playing the waiting game.. who knows there might be a 4xe extreme recon on 35s that will tempt me to jump the gun on. :)

4xe Rubicon
I drive a 2020 Sahara JLU and have about 75,000 trouble free and happy kilometers. My Jeep is a daily driver and weekend overlander - I drop and pickup my kids from school everyday which runs me about 20kms in the morning and 20kms in the afternoon. (That's out and back home 10+10km). Every week grocery runs are another 30kms and most other errands even out to under 50kms a month.

I was wondering if 4xe is a better Jeep for my situation as I potentially can cover 970kms of local driving per month in completely electric mode.

At 7kmpl (16.5mpg) that's about 140 liters and roughly $300 in commute fuel cost per month. Not including any weekend trips.

With gas prices getting record high here in Vancouver Metro Area, BC - Canada (Currently $2.05 per liter CAD) we were seriously giving a thought to trade in our beloved "Gray Wolf" and get a 4xe JLU.

There are a bunch of unknowns that I am still unclear about and would like opinion and ground truth from existing 4xe owners
  1. I am likely going to retain the same setup (35s on mild 1.5" lift). If I end up opting for a 4xe Rubicon instead of a Willys, will I be able to just plop 35s without needing to lift?
  2. What is the average fuel mileage (in mpg) on a 4xe when you are on very long trips and ev-battery is 0%? Do you still get around 20mpg at that situation?
  3. What is the reduction in EV range if you move from 33s to 35s (315/70/17)
Your replies, opinions and thoughts are much appreciated !

Looking to clone this setup over to a 4xe. Sad to see "Sting Gray" go away as color option.. will be ok to settle for "Anvil" or "Granite"

I think the 4xe is perfect for someone that does mostly city driving and can charge frequently. I drive about 20 miles a day and just use level 1 charging at night during off peak hours (7.55 cents per kWh). I only fill up with gas when I go on an off-road trip, which unfortunately is less frequent than I’d like. I’m going on 3 months without using gas. I’m planning on burning off this tank on a trip next weekend before I get kicked into FORM.

To answer your questions though, 35s fit fine on mine with no lift (17x9 with +18 offset). No rubbing at all normally and a tiny bit of rubbing in the rear at full flex. I’m going to take a heat gun to the fender liners and it should be good.

The only time I measured gas mileage was before I put on 35s. I was driving in e-save up to a trail loaded with 2 people and gear with 3000ft of elevation gain. It was 18.8mpg using the number of gallons between fill ups, not the dash mpg number.

For your third question, this is something I was really curious about before I put 35s on so I did some testing. I drove the same route and tried to keep the conditions the same. I used Google Maps to calculate the distance for both scenarios to keep it consistent. 95*ish temp, AC at 3, 300 ft of elevation loss.

City stoplight driving:
Stock: 27.8 miles
35s: 25.7 miles

Freeway - Cruise control at 70:
Stock: 22.4 miles
35s: 20.8 miles

So about a 7.5% reduction in EV range. I’m ok with that.

Thank you for taking the time to respond in detail.. Your rig looks subtly badass (which is my fav kind of badassery) ?
Those KMC summit wheels are looking great and very glad to hear that a 5.7 backspace doesn't have any rub. Given that you have a pretty strong and heavy tire like STT pro, that mileage dip of 2miles electric and 2mpg is reasonable. With c-rated 35s like KO2 or the 35x11.5 Toyo OC AT3 is probably going to help that cause further.

Update

After months of deliberation, we finally decided to pull the plug on this build and move to a 4xe. I was agonizing over this in the last few months and with the fuel cost for my commute sky rocketing, and my old rig running out on power-train warranty by November - we decided to trade it in.

Some of the parts will live on in the GrayWolf 2.0
- Front and rear steel bumpers
- Winch
- Mopar performance rock rails
- and a whole bunch of cosmetic and exterior mods.

We decided to leave the roof rack on the old one fearing paint fade/damage after being on there for about 2 years.

It was extremely emotional to say goodbye to my rig.. it had been such a great influence on my life in the past 2 years and 75000 kms of pure fun. Adios and farewell my brother!

ENJOY ! I went from a 2019 Sahara to a 24 Rub X 4xe and love it !! Pick up a lev2 charger if you don't have one already. World of difference going from 12+ hours to 2 hours more or less for full charge. A lot of good choices out there, but stick with a name brand / UL one IMO. Emporia and Grizzl- E are 2 really popular ones with great reviews and won't break the bank. Let us know what you think of the new 4Xe ...

Congrats!

I second getting a L2 charger - lots of posts on here about that. I have a Grizzl-E. It did cost me some to get the 220 installed in the garage, BUT you can recoup some of that cost in the US on your taxes, not sure about our northern friends.
