Hung out with the boys last weekend and yesterday I realized I have a leaky rear end...

This is the second time it has happened. First time was shortly after I re-geared. I had a trip coming up and everything was back order in 2021, so the shop fixed it with some RTV. It had been good since. Last September, I bent the axle flange and had to pull the OE shafts out for a set of Dana chromoly shafts, which came with everything pressed on. Knowing the seals are likely to leak in the future, I applied some RTV when installing. And sure enough it starts leaking again, it looks even worse this time.

Do I just remove the shaft, clean out the old RTV and be more generous with RTV this time? Or do I change out the seal? What's you suggestion?

Trip to Windrock is always a blast tho.

I'd pull the seal and replace it.

Be careful with the silicon when you install it. You don't want too much. Just a thin film between the axle tube and outer edge of the seal.

Yeah, I will probably order a new seal and bearing. In the mean time, try the RTV and see if it fixes the leaking. Pulling the shaft is quick and easy. If it still leaks, I will cut the bearing and replace the seal.

Its the edit feature on my phone where I blurred out the background. Too much Zoom calls that I just blur the background out of a habit lol

They do look like RC. Here is the original.

I know where Windrock itself is, but where in the park did you take that pic - what trail? Went last year and going back in May.
Oh, well, I do not know. There was a guy leading the trail so I did not pay attention to any of the trail signs this time. Sorry lol.

Haha I appreciate the honesty! I rarely know where I am on the trails.
