2023 Willys JL, got it the first week of June. A couple weeks ago she starting leaving a small pool of shock oil on the floor. Took a couple days before I noticed, then another week and a half for the dealer to get it in.

So, yesterday morning dealer confirms it is leaking, everything will be covered. Only problem is I'm being told the shock is on backorder (no surprise there) and isn't projected to arrive until August 15th.

The big question here is am I going to ruin a tire driving on it for a couple hundred miles already, with a couple hundred more between now and getting it replaced? Is there anything I should do, such as rotate it?

Greatly appreciate any input. I don't wanna start buying tires already...

You will be fine, just drive when have to. 2 or 3 weeks of a rental car could replace all 5 tires :)

Sounds like a good time for a lift.
That's exactly what yhe service manager said. Told him it's a bit early for that.

Thanks guys, appreciate the help. Just wasn't sure how quickly one could end up with a cupped tire.

You won't ruin the tire in a couple 100 miles but, what does a leaking shock result in?

CUPPING of the tread and can lead to death wobble at some point in time beyond a few 100 miles.

Jeep parts Dept: IF they had any kind of parts guy, he picks up fone and starts calling Jeep dealers in his Zone...how do I know, because I stood there and watch the parts guy call and after 2 calls he found the component I needed and said I will have it tomorrow, make an appt for it.

Agreed! I'm in the service industry and know all too well how it works. Unfortunately not that many people are willing to jump through a couple hoops. Myself, I do it all the time, have been for over 25 years. Good customer service is a great way to have a lifetime customer. The hard part is always gonna be finding good customer service...

To be honest, even though we've all been dealing with it for a couple years now, a shock being backordered for weeks surprised me.

Yeah I agree with the rest, with enthusiasm. You should have zero issues. I honestly wouldn’t even entertain the thoughts if I were you :)

What shocks are on the Willys now? The red Rubicon shocks?

If I wasn’t away I’d just send you one of mine. They were all pulled when I lifted it l at around 300 miles. Basically New sitting in box.

I've had all 4 shocks on my 21 rubicon replaced because of leaks. The fronts were in stock but the rear had to wait about 3 weeks for them to come in. So far the new ones are holding up, about 25k miles on the new rear and 10k on the new front shocks. If they leak again I'll put after market ones on. as others have said, you should be fine til the new ones arrive.
