TLDR: any suggestions on load equalizers for use with the KBD fenders to clear the "turn signal out" warning at vehicle startup?

Recently installed the KBD Polyurethane fenders. They're freaking awesome btw. But I do have the slightly annoying warning every time I start the vehicle that the turn signals are out. They work perfectly fine, so I could just live with it, but I have a wife, so that means it needs fixed.

I'm not 100% sure how it works, but my assumption is the sensor is reading the draw from the LED turn signal, and notices if it drops below a certain threshold. This is to let you know the light has gone out. The LEDs on the KBD kit has a lower draw than stock LEDs, therefor the jeep thinks the turn signals are always out. I'm assuming most aftermarket fenders with LEDs have this same problem.

The KBD site says I need a "load equalizer" to solve the issue. I've done some Google searching and came up with enough info to just confuse me. Anyone here have a suggested product that would help?

A pic, because Jeeps are cool

Did you ever figure out how to install them? I’m in the same boat and just got the resistor today from Amazon.

I used these. Super simple. Takes 5 minutes.

Did you splice into the yellow wire? I know the other one has to be the black wire.

I never did get this figured out, it was low enough priority at the time. You install yours yet, and did it work? If it does, can you share a link? TIA!

This is exactly what I used. I spliced one side into the black wire and the other into the yellow. It worked on my driver side but am still getting the error on my passenger side. The wires in the fenders are really thin and I think the in line splice thing that came with the load equalizer might not have penetrated deep enough to hit the wire. I have metal fender liners so it’s a pain on the ass to get to them but this weekend I’ll take it apart again and try to fix.

easy install did this a couple years ago, the larger black wires one to each side of the load resistor. solder it on and shrink wrap it. make sure you screw it so the back is against metal to help the resistor dissipate heat

Thanks for the guidance! I haven't pulled the trigger and bought them yet, but I'll make sure to update once I do and get them installed.

the fenders do come with the instructions for the resistor install. and i will say KBD has one of the best customer services in town and are made in Orange county California.

I must have missed that part of the install instructions, totally willing to blame myself on that one.

I did email KBD asking if they had any recommended solutions, did not hear back. I'm super happy with the product, and I'm sure I would have got a hold of them if I had called instead. My own laziness and other things just pushed this to the back burner at the time. I'm glad you've all jumped in to give me some recommendations, I have a couple of different products now I'll research and see which way I want to go. Not gonna lie, I'm liking the form factor in those Morimotos...

Did you put it inline on the black wire only? The instructions for the resistor said to put it between the blinker wire and the ground. I’m still troubleshooting mine and either I did it wrong or the wire crimp didn’t puncture the housing of the really thin wire. Plan on tinkering with it today…

I don’t recommend using the wire t-taps. It’s a bad connection on such a small Wire. If I remember correctly. ( it’s been a couple years since installing them) they plug straight into the old wiring harness connector. And off the new fender side connector was two larger black wires that go to nothing. You connect the load resistor between them. I’ll take a look after church today and get a couple of pictures
