This is all great for hard tops, but what about JL soft tops? With the mechanism for the soft top on the back roll bar i dont see anywhere that has enough room for mounting them and to where it wont affect the top going up or down. Any suggestions?

@Archer85 check out my earlier post #19 in this thread (link below). I don’t have a soft top, but since I avoided the roll bars, it’s possible that location will not cause any issues as the soft top folds down.

No issue with soft top going up and down with that location? do you have a link for that mount?
I can’t guarantee there are no issues with the soft top - but from videos and pics I’ve seen, it looks like the soft top folds in a way that won’t impact this spot. You’ll definitely want to confirm this though - as I don’t have a soft top.

As for links, see my post #22 in this thread. Here’s the link:

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/jlur-fire-extinguisher.7992/page-2#post-335328

You’ll find links for both the mount, and the extinguisher.

I just went with an Element 50. You might consider this option, as well. Costs a lot less than halon/halotron and emits for 50 seconds vs. 10. Opens up all kinds of possibility for mounting, as well. I just keep it in the netting behind one of the seats.

Installed the H3R-MX250B extinguisher on the H3R-NB300 quick release mount. Worked perfectly on that flat trim panel between the rollbar and the side window on the hard top. It’s accessible from both the back seat, and the tailgate area:

I'm going to order what you've listed, do you mind sharing how you mounted the bracket?

@LincolnSixAlpha For mounting instructions, see my post #22 in this thread:

JLUR Fire Extinguisher

Since I had taken this trim piece off previously, I knew there was a flat piece of sheet metal underneath it - with plenty of empty space below that. So, here are the steps:

  1. Mount the extinguisher to the “holder” portion of the mount.
  2. With extinguisher on the mount, place the mount where you want it, so it is straight, allows for access to the release pin, and allows you to catch 6 of the 8 holes in the mount (the mount is longer than the piece of flat trim, so you will not use two of the 8 holes).
  3. Once in place, carefully pull the release pin, and remove the extinguisher from the mount - while not moving the mount. Mark the plastic for one of the mounting holes with an awl.
  4. Remove mount and use a small drill to make a pilot hole at your mark in the plastic (drill bit should be real small - smaller than 1/8”). Only two of your 6 holes will drill into the sheet metal below. The other 4 are only making pilot holes in the plastic.
  5. You’ll need 6 (six) black, 1/8” sheet metal screws to hold it down. I can’t remember the length of the screws that I used - maybe 1/2”? They just need to be long enough to catch the sheet metal on those two points.
  6. After catching the first screw only hand tight, realign the mount so it is straight. Then place the extinguisher back in the mount, double checking that you can still access the release pin. Once confirmed, carefully remove the extinguisher without moving the base mount.
  7. Drill remaining 5 pilot holes, and install the remaining 5 sheet metal screws. Just remember that 4 of the 6 mounting points are only into plastic, so only tighten those screws until they bite into the plastic.
  8. Crack open a beer to celebrate your installation. Maybe set something on fire in your garage - ya know, just for a test ;-)

Thanks for taking the time to write this up, I was curious how far you were going into the sheet metal. I've already ordered the tank, and holder you've listed. Much appreciated!

super dumb question but why does a jeep need a fire extinguisher?

Do they catch on fire more than a typical vehicle?
I can see why you'd need one for camping.
Well I was right behind a rollover accident with a driver pinned in a van that hit the truck yesterday on my drive to work. Truck caught fire, a fire extinguisher may have helped. Took fire 30 minutes to arrive and there was no way to get the pinned driver out of the van.

I'm surprised there's not an option for something to be mounted under the seat.

Ive gotten one since I asked this dumb question and wouldn’t you know it a few months later I found a car smoking with a fire under the hood in my parking garage, the owner was freaking out and I pulled out my Element 100 extinguisher stick and put the fire out. Saved his beemer with no residue clean up aftermath. I now have a few in strategic spots around the house too.
So NOW I know. Always keep a fire extinguisher in your vehicle.
