JLU Trektop NX or wait?

Long time reader, first time poster...

I currently have a hard top on my JLU and I've been preparing to purchase the Trektop NX, but in the last few days I've been reading through quite a few negative reviews between the board and social media..it's seems like there's a lot of frustrated folks out there, with the number 1 & 2 complaints being the front sits back from windshield and the gap in the back below the rear window/flap. There also seems to be a lot of complaints about Bestop's customer service.

I'm curious, should I wait? Did they rush the trektop to market, do they update the product each year? Is the rear window thing something that could be resolved with some added velcro? I really like the look of the Trektop in bikini mode, but I know if I drop over a grand on the top and I'm dealing with leaks, I'm going to be kicking myself for not taking all the negative reviews into consideration.

Any input from folks who've purchased the Trektop would be greatly appreciated. I'm wondering if I should hold tight for Bestop to work the kinks out, or if the issues that have been reported are isolated and the majority of users haven't had any problems.

I would contact Bestop and see if they have addressed the issue. If they act like they don't know of a issue then I wouldn't buy.

We purchased a trektop back in March. Took delivery in May. So far very happy with the top. Have not had any issues.

Purchased mine in April. Had the issue with the gap between the back window and tailgate Contacted their customer service and they said they changed the gasket. They shipped it out for free and have had zero issues since. I have zero complaints about their customer service as well.

Love my Trextop NX, best upgrade to my Jeep yet. I had the first version on my 2014 JKU and Bestop has upgraded every aspect of the top from the latches, the surrounds, the flip back etc. Go for it.

I love my bestop on my 2 door JL. No complaints with the top or customer service. I think they make a great product.

I would honestly avoid as Bestop has not played this one honestly with the customers and instead is playing "mushroom farm" by keeping us all in the dark and well covered in sh!t and denial.

There are several issues with the TrekTop NX they fail to sort out:

1) Flapping rear window at around 65+ mph. This was triggered when they sorted out the gap in the rear tailbar in the original kits.

2) Random sqeaks/rattles from the ribs at speed. Even tightening the pivots and ensuring they are find cause it.

3) Sirius XM lost signal with top down as the front box sits right across the Sirius XM antenna and is a chunk of steel.

If you look on this forum quite some units for sale because of these issues.....

I am in the same situation, summer is almost over so I am going wait. I don't like their current top as it does not go down all the way. I will see what else they come out with or buy an OEM top from someone here.

Hey there!

Why get the BT when it doesn’t go all the way down and has a buttload of problems?

I got a Mopar Tan Soft Top Premium Twill for my 2018 JLU from CJ Pony Parts (about $1800 with a coupon code) and I absolutely love it. Every nice day I drive with it in sunrider position or fully down - you’d think that I spent the summer on the beach cuz I have a soft top tan! It was a reasonably simple install for me although, being short and a woman, an extra pair of hands would have been really, well, handy!

It’s been in all sorts of crazy summer storms with no leakage at all. The windows are silly-easy to slide in and out of their tracks, and on the rare occasions when the top is up the darn thing is no noisier than with the hard top on. If I didn’t live in the Northeast then I’d just leave the soft top on year-round.

Here are a couple of pics - with the soft top up and down. Try the Mopar - I bet you’ll like it as much as I do!

Mopar JL soft top. It truly is amazing. Takes 1 minute to take down, and 3 minutes to put on after you get used to it.

Thanks gals and guys for the input, I appreciate it. I think I will wait, either save up some more pennies for the Mopar or see if Bestop provides an updated model. Summer is almost over, and GA's fall doesn't last that long..so I'll just wait and take the freedom panels off in the meantime.

I'm waiting until they come out with a trek top that opens all the way to the back like the one they made for the JK. Think it was called the Glide. If that doesn't happen before next summer I'm going to pull the trigger on a Suntop.

wait until more companies offer alternatives. the Trektop NX is defective and Bestop is annoyed that customers like myself are calling in to complain about the defective tops they're selling.
