The passenger door on my wife's 2020 JLU is rather hard to close due to an alignment issue. As you can see from the pics, the top has no gap and the bottom has a bit of one.

I have adjusted the striker and moved both hinges around on the body over the past few weeks. The striker isn't the problem, it is something to do with the door itself. I removed the door and adjusted both hinges on the body earlier today, as you can see from the paint marks, so that they are as far outward and upward as the bolt holes will go. That seemed to help a little but the door is still hard to close.

I hesitate to mess with the painted hinge bolts on the door itself because I do not want to mess up the finish and I believe there should be another way to adjust this so that the gap is the same width from top to bottom.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately it's the painted part of the hinges that you need to adjust. They've probably slipped over time. I found it's easiest to get it right by closing the door, loosening the bolts slightly, placing a couple wood shims between the door and sill plate so it's just right and re-tightening the bolts. You can try to protect the paint by stretching a latex glove fingertip over the torx bit.

The bolts that you've adjusted will have little to no effect on the height of the outer part of the door where the latch is.
