I believe I have already confirmed that the JL headlight and fog lights plugs are the same as the JK. I’ll know for sure tomorrow when a part I ordered comes in.

Does anyone know if the taillight plugs are the same on the JL as the JK?

I would like to modify a cheaper 4 pin trailer harness to non permenantly wire in some backup cube lights and really don’t want to have to buy the mopar trailer wiring harness. If I could find out the exact plugs and a place to order them I could also make the whole thing from scratch.

I confirmed that the fog light plugs are the same on the 2010-2018 Jk as the JL. These fog light plug to deutch connector adapters are for a 10-18 Jk.

An update for anyone who may want to do this in the future. The taillight plugs are not the same on the JL as the JK. I took the taillight out and got the part numbers off the plugs and have ordered them along with the pins and wire. Total cost for parts is about $20.

Where did you order from? Amazon seems a bit sketchy on details for this using the part numbers in your photos. A link would be fantastic if you still have that level of detail. I’d love to build my own harness which is quickly reversible

I ordered from mouser electronics. Ordering about twice the amount of parts I needed in case I broke or lost something was a hair under $25 shipped. Here’s the links.

I did all this before any trailer harnesses came out. I have since got a 4 pin harness from Curt that also plugs inline. If you plan to ever hail a trailer I’d just order one of those and then splice it for backup lights since the harness has plugs for both taillights and all the relays required.

With backup lights or a trailer you will have to pull another power wire from the front of the Jeep. Either coming off an extra fuse or straight off the battery with an inline fuse near the battery. I wouldn’t trust the taillight wires themselves to provide enough power for cube lights or trailer lights.

Im about to do the same thing i have a controller already, i think im just gonna order the plugs then wire up a ground, easy peasy, do you have any issues with lights or anything? Or does it all work bang on?

Is assembling these connectors straight forward, any tips or tricks? Thinking about making some JL flat towing harnesses with these....

Do yourself a favor and buy the tools made to assemble and dissassemble Molex connector pins.

Is that 1st tool going to work for me? Seems like the 2nd one is more expensive and specified for different pins. Maybe I was just looking at things wrong....

Here's what I think is a parts list for rolling your own tail light wiring harness. The game plan is to make a harness that automatically switch the tail lights out using standard relays. These parts, plus the wires are all that's needed in the tail light, then there would be a 12v,Ground, Left/Brake,Right/Brake, Running lights going to the front.

It would be cool to add the rear license plate light if anyone can give some info on that connector...

Code:
Manufacturer Part Number Description
334826201 CONN PLUG ASST 12POS DUAL BLACK (Tail Light Male need 2)
334721306 CONN RCPT HSG 12POS 3.50MM (Tail Light Female - need 2 )
330000001 CONN PIN 14AWG CRIMP TIN (Pins - Male - need 24)
330122001 CONN SOCKET 14-16AWG CRIMP TIN (Pins - Female - need 24)
PC782-1C-12S-D-X 30A SPDT MICRO ISO RELAY 12V DIO (Relay - Use Motorhome 12v to switch lights - depends on how things are wired - need at least 3, probably 4, maybe 6 or 7 if addressing license plate light and LED "signal" wires)
60249-1 CONN QC RCPT 12-16AWG 0.250 (Relay pins - large - 2 per socket)

Here's a first pass at a diagram with parts. Anyone interested in seeing if there are any mistakes or want to tell me why it won't work?
