JL resale values are insane!

On the supply side, definitely. On the demand side: repeated rounds of stimulus, low interest rates, lots of people sitting at home and on their wallets for a year, and people still not willing to travel internationally. That makes for a tight market. My Jeep sales guy says he is very busy / happy right now. That said, he does have a boatload of white hard-topped Islanders for those who need one.

I like the white top idea but more like the concept Jeepster though.

See the offers vroom is handing out right now, I have seen offers for 5-8k more than people were offered a month ago.

2 weeks ago they offered $31k for my wife’s 18 JKUS. A week ago it was $32k. I’m hoping the value continues to rise or at least holds up for 3-4 more weeks until her new JL comes in

Kelly Blue Book says my 2018 Sahara with every major option on it and only 6,200 miles is worth $45,000 to a dealer. I paid $38,000 four months before the pandemic hit.

I added about $3,500 in Katzkin leather seats and a Mopar lift.

I barely drive it. I am tempted to get the cash and run. Perhaps wait a few months for the market to cool off and see what else to get.

I still have the OE wheels and front bumper. I may swap the Quadratec wheels and steel bumper and sell them separately. I never got around to installing the winch.

massive part and component shortages are causing dealer inventory to dry up fast, slow orders from the factories its a SELLERS market, if you have another car to use and barely drive the Jeep I'd dump it pocket the extra cash and wait until shit gets back on track.
just for the hell of it a month ago I checked my 21 Willys value on Vroom offered me $35.5K check again Monday $39.2K

Carvana gave me an offer of $32,700 for my ‘18 JLU Sport S, red, 6 speed, 35k miles with safety package. My lease ends next month w/ a $27K buy price. My ‘21 JLU Willys should be at the dealer in the next week or 2. Tread Lightly plus an almost $5K trade equity? Yes please.

All of the above posts illustrate the difference between VALUE and PRICE. Now, if you sell high, you can expect to buy high, factoring in taxes, fees, $ spent on mods, cost of interest on those payments. That's the plus and minus of price, a numbers game.
VALUE is the intangible, not number applicable, enjoyment you get out of the vehicle. I've had efficient, boring Cars that were a good price, but a lousy Value, just an appliance to point A from Z.
Wranglers inhabit the Value Zone, for me. That's Priceless

I still have until August, but this will be the reason why I will likely end up buying out the lease on my '18JLUR. I could upgrade to a '21, but would end up paying much more for a very similar equipped Rubicon. I'll ride it our for a few years and wait to special order again when the mid cycle refresh offers some more enticing options and upgrades.

Waiting for my JLR 2dr, but will be trading my 2016 Willys Wheeler with 43k miles on it for $24k. The dealer used KBB. I checked KBB last November and it was $21k back then. The trade in value increase was a definite push towards the new JL

Instead of trading, try selling on your own (autotrader/cargurus etc). I was waiting on my newly ordered JLUR and I knew I had about 3 to 4 weeks to wait. Dealer offered 25k on my 2014 JKU as trade in allowance.

I figured since I had plenty of time, why not attempt to sell it. If I couldn't, I still had the 25k the dealer offered to fall back on.

Sold it for $29,200 less than 2 weeks later on Cargurus.

I had a 2015 JKU sport S paid 32,000.00, the dealer added remote start to it and that's all that was done to it.
In 2019 my Jeep was totaled with almost 60,000 miles on it, the insurance company gave me 28,000 for it .
In 1-20-2020 I bought a Jeep JLU that listed at 43,000.00, paid 37,000.00 and it had hard top, head liner, cold weather package, 7in radio upgrade, tow package and the plus was V6 auto.
Had to get inspection and the salesman told me he would give me list price for it(9,000 mile on it)
So if you total your Jeep will the insurance company give you the inflated price?

Vroom offered me more than i paid for mine lol. i may look into doing it and then getting a new Rubi. i dont mind waiting for if i have to, even six months or more. i have other vehicles to drive.

How does owing ~$20K on your Jeep note qualify as "pretty much paid for"?

The market goes up and down due to supply and demand, and what you paid for a new vehicle months or years ago has no bearing on what you would pay today. You might do well selling your current vehicle, but then what would it take to replace it?

It's the JK resale values that are crazy. I was looking to buy 10 months ago and thought I could find a used model in my budget. I found that a 5 year old JK hardly saved anything over a new JL.

That’s awesome that you ended up selling it private. The thought has occurred to me. Good point to try it and still have the dealer quote to fall back on. I suppose everyone has their own reason, but I do need a vehicle for work that I need to get to no matter what (I’m a nurse). I’m not close enough for bus/bike etc. Anyways….I need a vehicle to replace mine when the time comes. And I don’t think I can rely on selling a car and timing it when the new one arrives
