So this morning was the first time I have been flipped off by a guy in a JK (a silver one at that). I was in a parking lot, just passing him the other direction and waved. He flipped me off. No chance he saw my wave as the middle finger. This was a well used and well-modified JK as well, actually a good looking rig. It was a little discouraging honestly. Had it been from any other vehicle I couldn't care less...

Anyone else have this happen? Are there JK purists out there who hate the idea of the JL?
You're taking too many Jeep liberties here (pardon the pun). People get flipped off by their own flesh and blood that they've worked hard all their lives to feed (ask my dad) and you think you need some counselling here cos some random guy flipped you off?

What Mr. Stanhope says about words is also applicable to gestures:

Seems like the older the Jeep, the less likely I'll get a Jeep wave. Don't really understand having a sense of superiority because you have any particular generation of Jeep...

Sorry about your crappy experience. We have a member on one of our local facebook Jeep groups that's sole purpose in life is to crap on every JL picture or question that is posted.

I've been to a few local Jeep meetups and my Wife and I are always one of the few JL's there. Most people always have something negative to say, and act like we are not real Jeep owners (I've owned 4 JK Wranglers, and my wife and I owned XJ's earlier on in life.)

I actually tried a CTI Ramp at one of the meetups while my buddy was outside taking pictures, and my wife was sitting alongside. You should have heard the crap they were talking about the JL.... "Oh, the long wheelbase will kill it." " He won't stand a chance against any of these JK's, I'm not sure why he's even trying." I was in the Jeep, and heard this from my buddy that was standing by listening to people talk. Being a Jeep guy himself he noticed also noticed the overall negativity from the JK crowd.
At the end of the day I made it higher up the ramp than any JK there even though they made me stop before my one of my tires had a chance to lift. I know this because my bumpstops are not tall enough and my rear fenders would rub before I would lift a wheel/lose traction. Even with them miscalculating my wheelbase and stopping me short, I still scored a close third only behind a dedicated Rock buggy and a heavily modified JK. When I calculated my actual wheelbase at home I would have been second to only that Rock buggy.

They did give another JL the mall crawler award at the same event:facepalm:

I'm not saying the JL is the best vehicle of all time. I respect all Jeeps/SUV's/Trucks/Cars built for a purpose! I just wish people would just stop and realize we all love Jeeps regardless of the reason(Offroad Capability, 4 Door Convertible, Looks, or whatever else....)

I'm done with my rant. :bandit:

Your wife is in one or two of the Facebook groups I am in, and she is always such a positive, nice person (although maybe it is just because she is trying to get people to side with her when she snags your wheels  )

I would think the amount of knowledge you have based upon your job and the work you have done to your Jeep would be apparent. Some people just like to be angry.

My brother goes wheeling with a bunch of built from the ground up Wrangler guys. He has a Toyota that is also built. They all help him with his truck (when they are not picking on him for passing up both of the Grand Cherokees I sold this year). They also seem to love my JL since they told him he better not skip that one if I ever sell it.

Anyway, the whole point of these types of vehicles seems like it should be having fun. I don't know how so many people lose sight of that. Then again, I have never been one to enjoy trolling or conflict.

What is funny is I had a guy today almost fall out of his JKU with no doors on it trying to wave to me. Must be all the a holes where you live OP.
He is in Oregon, so..... :giggle:

Hi OP, we are pretty much neighbours. I'm a bit South of you. :)

In my beach town , out-of-town BMWs and Teslas do that to me all the time . Only seen one JL , though . Around Cali , the JLs are in the richer towns , and CJs rule the beach .

This boggles my mind. Especially since I used to own a JK and now a JL and they are very similar. When I compare both to my buddies CJ. Not even close. How either could try to claim superiority as a "real" jeep is just crap. Last week in my JL I saw an old guy cruising in a real 1940's Willies and we waved at each other. And that's how it should be.

An update:

I went back to the UPS store where this 'F-U wave' occurred. They let me review the surveillance video and I got the guy's license plate #. My buddy who is a local cop ran it and got me the dude's address. As I am sure any of you would do, I drove by the guy's house to sort this sh$t out.
Turns out he is a very nice guy and felt terrible about the whole incident. The thing is, he is a breeder of red-bellied piranhas for the exotic fish trade and as a result of 20 years of piranha breeding he has only his middle finger left on his left hand. He actually WAS waving back!

Ok, so that's how I will imagine it happening...I can sleep now.

In other news- the fam and I are headed for our first Jeep beach trip tomorrow!

I had a guy wave at me this morning on my way back from selling my Rubicon suspension to a forum member. He was driving a heavily lifted, older Cherokee. I gave him a half-wave and wondered if he rated a full wave or not...........lol.

I mean, ya start waving at Cherokees, next thing you know, we will be waving at Compasses and Renegades. Where does it end?

;)

I was driving down to the local off road park in a convoy with a jk in front and and a jk behind me. Some tree sloth in a somewhat built jk waived at the first jk, immediately pulled his hand in as he went by my jl, and then stuck it out and waived at the jk behind me.

I just laughed, his tiny brain actually had to work to make that sequence of events happen.
