Yer telling me there’s somewhere worse than Ca. WOW- Dad’s 3A still has no signals or seatbelts but does have 2 taillights. Even one taillight is legal if it was factory equipment. unless it has changed and it’s been illegal for the last 20 years or so. Ca did reduce no brakes required towing from 4,500 to 1,500 lbs. haven’t been caught— yet ?
No seatbelts in my CJ. Illinois doesn't reauire them in venicle model years 1964 and earlier. I HAVE been considering adding them, though. My buddy, who is master technician at the shop that services all our Jeeps...including 'Willy'....and I were on a short drive around the block diagnosing a front end shimmy. As I slowed to make the turn into the shop's driveway 'Willy' lurched to the right nearly ejecting us both. I don't know how we hung on but we did.

An old cotter pin on the right rear wheel broke resulting in a cascade failure causing the wheel to come off the axle. The cotter pins on all four wheels have been replaced. The shop does a thorough inspection for me every spring but I've added 'inspect cotter pins' to the checklist.

As we climbed out of 'Willy' I saw the right rear wheel rolling down the road doing a slow death spiral in front of a stopped car. I walked over, righted the wheel and as the car passed me the lady behind the wheel rolled down her window, smiled and said..."Well, that's something you don't see every day.".

The '46 CJ, by looking at old photos, was equipped with a single tail light on the left rear. There was just a hole there when I took possession of 'Willy'. I used that hole to mount one of my radio antennas. During the restoration I added two surface mount tail lights and a blinker lever. The mechanics had a heck of a time with the wiring getting the front marker lights to work wirh the blinker.

I don't understand your comment abour IL beinf worse than CA. ??

In case you aren’t aware, larger Ford brakes are the same lug pattern and a simple swap for good improvement. Sorry I can’t be more specific but Dad did it in the 60’s before the Hurricane/12V swap ~70. (My 63 also got Ford’s). I have passed it down, presently at my son’s in-laws. I supplied the Jeep, he is doing the fix up for the grandkids. The oldest driving, the second next year. 1 Jeep- 3 kids- my Son’s problem now, old guy not stupid. ? No belts because IF they are there they Must be worn.

Didn’t you say turn signals to be legal ? Oh well- what I got- last I knew, legal in Ca as factory equipped. My parking light rings and lenses disappeared after being taken off to save battery for emergency rear tow lights after light cord damage, oops.

I'll tell ya...my CJ is so small (I've been nearly t-boned twice at the same 4-way stop intersection) that in addition to the turn signals I ALWAYS use hand signals. But I wonder just how many Illinois driver recognize the,...especially the hand signal for right turn.
The younger generations just think you're flipping them off

No, our two door Jeeps are closer to the design of the TJ (hood, etc) and CJ (grille) together. Two doors were the original wrangler and I’ve owned a four door for two years and will never own one again. The ride is not the same as a “real” Jeep. Not as fun to drive.
The silhouette on the windshield is not a CJ, is not a TJ, does not have doors, is not a Wrangler, and technically isn’t even a “Jeep.” The design of the JL grill is a combination of the CJ, YJ, TJ, and JK and is used on both the 2 door and the 4 door.

BTW, that's not a 2 door Jeep. Its the original WWII Jeep and they didn't have doors.

I have an unlimited and I don't care what other people dislike about it. I didn't buy it to please anyone but myself.

Ok, we all get it. You 2 door pure Jeep enthusiasts are not just satisfied to drive your Jeep without bashing the 4 door version. So, can the guys that actually own real Jeeps bash your wannabe 2 door Jeeps and just go on and on about it? Wouldn't that get ridiculously tiresome?

Just go have fun and stop beating a dead horse about how superior you think your 2 door Jeep is.

“GP”?? Are you referring to the GPW? If so, that’s a Ford.

G P -“ Vehicle - General Purpose- GI’s slurred into jeep ? and a name is born.
That is one rumor of the origin of the name. Before Willys-Overland patented the name “Jeep” (many years after the war), you won’t find the name Jeep on any WWII military vehicles or paperwork. And btw, the “GP” in GPW did not stand for General Purpose.

Pilot models were submitted and named— Bantam BRC 60 “Blitz Buggy” became BRC 40 — Willys “Quad” became MA— Ford “Pygmy” became GP. When Willys was selected and renamed MB, Ford was changed from GP to GPW, the W referring to the Willys license, unfortunately just says “became known by it’s nickname, Jeep” . I have seen official documents referring to the MB/GPW as “Vehicle- General Purpose”. I might do a quick search to satisfy myself, Will edit if I find anything— info source— “Kaiser Willys” ? …. Child was confused when father got a second Jeep along with the 3A that had Ford on the dash plaque, not Willys, was explained. ? Edit- Some say that the word “Jeep”comes from the pronunciation of “GP”or “General Purpose”. Others claim that the vehicle was named after the agile little creature from the Popeye cartoon “Eugene the Jeep” created in 1936. Less commonly , some suggest that a “Jeep” has colloquially referred to any military vehicle undergoing testing since WW1 . Finally another version suggests that the acronym “Just Enough Essential Parts” is also a likely explanation……. if it’s the last one, the name needs to be changed.
