No seatbelts in my CJ. Illinois doesn't reauire them in venicle model years 1964 and earlier. I HAVE been considering adding them, though. My buddy, who is master technician at the shop that services all our Jeeps...including 'Willy'....and I were on a short drive around the block diagnosing a front end shimmy. As I slowed to make the turn into the shop's driveway 'Willy' lurched to the right nearly ejecting us both. I don't know how we hung on but we did.Yer telling me there’s somewhere worse than Ca. WOW- Dad’s 3A still has no signals or seatbelts but does have 2 taillights. Even one taillight is legal if it was factory equipment. unless it has changed and it’s been illegal for the last 20 years or so. Ca did reduce no brakes required towing from 4,500 to 1,500 lbs. haven’t been caught— yet ?
An old cotter pin on the right rear wheel broke resulting in a cascade failure causing the wheel to come off the axle. The cotter pins on all four wheels have been replaced. The shop does a thorough inspection for me every spring but I've added 'inspect cotter pins' to the checklist.
As we climbed out of 'Willy' I saw the right rear wheel rolling down the road doing a slow death spiral in front of a stopped car. I walked over, righted the wheel and as the car passed me the lady behind the wheel rolled down her window, smiled and said..."Well, that's something you don't see every day.".
