It also depends if the credit is a pass through from Stellantis’ leasing company. If it’s given to the leasing company they can choose to keep it or pass it on to the lessee. That is supposedly one way around the income threshold.

And I personally know several people who are not eligible for the EV tax credit based on income.
15 minutes on this forum, and they would learn the quick legal backdoor way to get that full $7,500 plus some.

You sure about that?

a casual look at places like Carvana show they are about the same price as the non 4xe, then factor in the deep discounts, incentives, government subsidies, and the 4xe might be doing better at resale.
When I bought mine, they were going for sticker plus. No rebates other than the $7500 tax credit. If you look now, you'll see dealer discounts, dealer rebates...I even saw a 2023 4xe at a NJ dealer offering $30,000 off...when I see what I owe versus trade in....yeah, it's clear the re-sale is down. The dealer told me they are not moving these off the lot. So it makes sense to offer the discounts and incentives they are...but that does affect the resale value...

I am considering a 2 door new or used, cheaply as I can get one. It sounds like a good time to do it...

If you aren’t trading, buying low is when you get the best value.

Fun ones!
Buy an EV, get a tax credit....
Unfortunately it’s not that simple. I think a Plaid would be pretty cool, but no credit, no dice. At some point EV’s will be pushed so hard and the incentives will be rolled out to everyone that it would make no financial sense to buy an ICE vehicle.

Perhaps. I'm thinking that taxpayers will get mighty sick of subsidizing private purchases of electric vehicles, requiring the rebates to be strictly factory sponsored.

The reason for the discounts, is either Stellantis sell their own EVs to offset the emission fines, or they buy credits to offset to avoid paying fines.

About half of Tesla profits is selling magic air to the big 3 to offset their fleet emissions.

The problem with the Plaid is its MSRP. Beyond the threshold for EV tax credit eligibility. I doubt it's $7500 that's keeping you from purchasing one.

But, in general, True, there are other stipulations like battery and other major components need to be sourced from North America and other pro-American requirements in addition to the income/eligibility of the purchaser.

There are many EV's that qualify for the credit including USED ev's, not just new, however, Elon's company builds a lot of their parts outside of North America and so they don't all qualify for the full credit.

I am considering the same thing. A sport 2 door.

About 2 years ago it was challenging to get your hands on a nice JL here in the metro vancouver area.. and they didn’t come cheap when you did! Now I see the same JL’s at the dealer collecting grime. Today I seen one of the pre-owned units parked up front for 33,500CAD.. Didn’t look to be the best spec but YIKES! I can see the resell valves plummeting literally before my eyes.

All of these qualifications can be avoided by leasing. Leases are considered commercial transactions for purposes of the tax credit… Income vehicle pricing limitations don’t apply. Just check out leasing specials by BMW for instance. Many others are doing the same…I think Tesla also does this. I leased a BMW IX50 last year…and the tax credit was very much part of the transaction on a $95,000 vehicle.

Yep. We also leased an iX last year ;) Actually, end of 2023. BMW was offering an almost $10k lease incentive at the time.
