I doubt it. The free market already has spoken. Manufacturers were already dialing back or cancelling as many EV programs as they could, given the mandates they were operating under. Now that the weight of mandates have been removed, they can concentrate on vehicles that their customers want to buy. It wont happen overnight, but imagine the savings now that massive amounts of cash burn aren't going towards programs that wont yield any return, much less profit.
If the free market has spoken, why do EV and hybrid sales continue to increase year over year?

Which automaker has cancelled its EV development plans? The only cancellations I'm aware of are for large, high-cost EV's, but that's reflective of the high cost vehicle market overall, it's not doing well, ICE or EV.

In before the lock caused by all the “apolitical” doublespeak.
It is 100% possible to discuss economics...that is, until someone inserts their politics. So far the discussion has been about economics.

That is my hope... Wasn't planning on trading until spring/summer when there is more demand for a Wrangler but got a few estimates to get an idea on the trade value. It was shocking to say the least.

Try Carmax, can't hurt. They gave me $4k more in cash than the stealership offered for trade. I didn't have $4k extra in taxes so it was the more fiscally responsible route.

Good call. They just sold one for $61k in a matter of days and it was similar miles and like mine minus the winch and sky one touch. So even if they want to make 10% profit it would still be way better than the dealership offers.

You're right. I want to add that politics typically = economic policies. I'd say they are directly related. Maybe we're allowed to say something without actually typing that exact text, read between the lines and know what someone is saying type of thing.

I feel the same way. I’ve never had the mindset that buying a vehicle new or used was a good investment. Some cars are just a necessary evil. We bought the Jeep for where we can go and what we can do with it. We got a fair deal and its current worth is not measured in dollars.
I'm the only one on this thread to use the term "apolitical" Terry so you must be referring to me.

There's no double speak here. Regardless of whose shirt the powers that be wears, regardless of which country institutes them, tariffs are as simple as a hard punch to the upper arm. They hurt the recipient and risk, if that recipient has the power, that they may in turn inflict a similar blow in return.

Now, whether that tariff is noble, good, smart, or the opposite depends upon if the recipient deserved it, and the extent to which they can punch back. To the extent that such blows can't be swapped it helps domestic companies: a good thing for the country that instituted the tariff.

I got lucky I bought a 21 jlu sport new in 21 for $3000 discount. I know doesn’t sound like much of a discount but I sold a 2017 on carvana for $2000 more then I paid for it. So I don’t feel so bad.

With over 80% of new cars being financed I would argue that interest rates are a major determinant here. High(er) interest rates are very effective in curbing demand and changing consumer behavior. Whereas before you might be able to buy a high(er) spec Jeep for $XXX/month now for that same payment you have to settle for a more basic spec or forego the purchase altogether. High rates also negatively affect car dealers and their appetite to carry inventory - new and used - on the lot. Now shy Stellantis can’t mange their production rates … that’s a true mystery

Guys, 4xe in Europe was around 100k$ for two years in a row and was the only available option. Now we're having 2.0T only and its around 82k$.

I've bought mine in 2021 when it was 58k..

And we're talking Rubicon trim with all options selected.

IMHO 4xe price was INSANITY and ~80k for gas now is still absurd. Dunno who bought 4xe, Stellantis is having a reality check.
This is more Europe tossing an insane amount of fees/fines onto the platform than anything else. You either pay out the ass or Stellantis pulls out of the market. Europe emissions standards are going crazy this year and into the next few years. Eventually something will have to give

The two door Jeeps have always provided to me the highest resale. They were mostly stripped models, some with A/C or a hard top.

Nope not addressed to anyone in particular, it just seems to be the way of forums. I did read the word and used it. I don’t take anyone’s opinion that seriously here, including my own.

So I think part of the problem is the 2025s can’t be built the same as the 24s. For example I have 3.6 auto with Xtreme package and 4.88 gears. Only way to get 4.88 is with a manual and non Xtreme. And the Xtreme is only an option with the 2.0. So you can’t even build an apples to apples Jeep. The closest I can come only gets me to a $72k sticker. So it seems Jeep may have quietly cut cost by changing options and making them cheaper while holding the base price. The trade value is making more sense to me now.

with that said if anyone wants a fully loaded rubicon X with the auto 3.6 and 4.88. Let me know 😂

Stellantis stopped the Ram 1500 EV pickup development this week and now have no plans to market it. Ford has dialed back Mach E and Lightning production to nearly nothing. I'm sure Tesla is doing well and their sales are going up, it has more to do with how the company markets and operates vs any perceived benefits of gas vs electric.

Canoo is belly up. Rivian is operating on subsidies, having just been paid in excess of $6b by the outgoing administration. The USPS wants any further new mail trucks delivered to be gas, not EV. Fisker is on life support. As far as Jeep related, in non CARB states, the 4Xe is hard for dealers to sell, and thay don't really want one in trade.

EV sales may be rising, but the sales numbers are still nowhere near where the prior administration would have the auto manufacturers believe they would be. Environmental regulations and mandates weren't enough to persuade the car buying public to embrace EVs near as much as was hoped. Without mandates and subsidies do you see the situation improving for EVs?

Evs do have a place in the market. However, at this time, the vast majority of the new car buying public simply don't want to buy them. And no one wants to be compelled to buy something that they don't really want. Now that the playing field will be leveled, the free market will truly decide which vehilces will survive and wich ones wont. That's about all there is to it.

Didn't they cancel the Ram EV and are focusing on the Ramcharger instead?
