Who knows what the algorithm spits out. Years ago I drove a car that monitored those things (I think it had Progressive Snapshot plugged in). Driving on the interstate just before rush hour, traffic went from 65 to 0 due to a wreck a half mile ahead. I stopped accordingly and appropriately, the nose of the car didn’t even dip. Hard brake. Accelerating with the traffic once it started moving again. Hard acceleration.
Either the sample rate was too slow, or these things are made to exaggerate the statistics to make you look like a bad driver so they can jack your insurance rate up.

Probably a little bit of both.

This is a common practice. You are allowed to opt out, but you must know it’s available and go through the procedure to do so, or it’s considered implied consent. IMO, this is bass akwards, you should have to opt in. The default option is typically the company’s, union’s, employer’s, etc chosen and wanted one that’s too their benefit.

if neither option was too their benefit

This sort of thing needs to be compelled legally, but that would be too much "government overreach in private business" and "If the buyers don't want to be tracked, simple, don't buy vehicles that track you!"

I love my technology but I want to buy things that benefit me, and only me. Every now and then I get the urge to rip that stupid 8.4" swatbox out of my jeep and stuff something in that I actually have control over. That urge gets bigger every time there's a news article like this lol.

All new vehicles have tracking capabilities. The only way to avoid the issue is to drive older cars or live in a state that does not allow insurance companies to use the data. When I was having CAN bus issues, I frequently was driving 158 mph in my driveway.

But, things are about to get a lot worse…

General Motors , BMW , and Nissan have already started installing infrared cameras that monitor driver behavior. These cameras track driver attentiveness and use semi-automated driver-assist systems. Making sure drivers keep their eyes on the road, they look for indications of impairment, drowsiness, or loss of consciousness. If any of these behaviors are detected, a warning alerts the driver and only escalates if said behaviors continue. Hazard lights come on, speed decreases, and the vehicle either comes to a halt or pulls over to the side of the road.
Features to prevent drunk driving will be required for all new vehicles no later than 2026.

here some titbits.
  • the black box controlling the air bag will keep the last 5 seconds before the airbag is deploy. this is how they know the speed, if you attempted to break before impact and other interesting information on how you where driving.
  • Back 10 years ago, there was a push to install a apps on your phone that monitor your driving and give you discount if you are good driver. This rage all diapered because they where unable to distinguish if you where actually driving our just a passenger. It was particularly giving bad rating to peoples bus ridding while standing.
  • Be happy that you do not have driver facing camera to monitor your status, especially drowsiness. So you can use the excuse that some one else was driving.
  • For a short period of time I enabled the speed nanny for fun. They do not need anyone doing manual labor to know if your are speeding the GPS will do it for them. Yes I disable it, I no longer get told to slow down, but is the information continue to be register somewhere ?
  • There is currently legal battle happening on this particular topic.

Parts of Canada organ harvesting is automatic, not sure if it applies to the people that refused the injections.

Maybe there's an engineer in the JL Wrangler Forum who can design a jamming system for this...

Well, I guess if I ever buy a new Jeep with all this big brother GPS monitoring stuff, I’m going to have find a new way of committing crimes so I’m not tracked while doing it… 🙄
Just line the entire inside and outside of the Jeep with tinfoil, apparently it's guaranteed to stop such things according to the internet 😝

Don’t worry guys, I’m here! Big Brother came to me last night, as I lay in bed, peacefully…he quietly whispered in my ear (and touched me in places that I shouldn’t talk about), he said that WTF was on to them, and was thinking about posting this to the JL Wranglers forum (yes, they have a thought police department, they know what you’re thinking). I told Big Brother I would jump on here and convince everyone to stop posting about him, because he’s having a hard time monitoring Wrangler owners due to their awareness of his presence and disabling telemetry on their Wranglers. This, in turn, is rendering him virtually powerless and he urged me to act. But, truthfully, I don’t think I want to continue doing Big Brothers bidding, guys…so I’ll give you the solution, CUT ALL CABLES IN YOUR ENGINE BAY, THIS IS THE ONLY WAY!! God speed, brethren!

The Uconnect and the apps barely works, a jamming system might be too complex for them

By 2020 standards that whole system is utter 💩

Can this data be used against one, if one was to get into a accident? Privacy, no longer exists.. 😱
If you’re concerned about this, it hasn’t for years. All modern cars have a black box that records the driving parameters when a collision occurs.
